Best Alarm/Remote Start Setup

I talked to a guy at BB today and he said he can't program the factory fob. True or BS?
This is true...well...true that the BB guy is not capable of doing the install properly. I have my smart start connected to my factory key fob and am able to use my smartphone to start the FX from wherever I and the car can get a signal. I specifically asked my installer to avoid having extra key fobs.

When I got my smart start installed I never thought of getting my fob programmed to it.

I recently had the Viper 5706 installed, with smart start, and we're having a programming issue. The alarm and factory fob work fine, interchangeably, however the car will not remote start unless the factory fob is in the car. We've programmed the fob per the instructions (the installer did and he's very skilled at alarm installs) but no go.

Using the 5706 + FX50 xpresskit harness and the Dball2 interface module.

If anyone might know what the issue is OR has a contact of a good installer who has installed this alarm into the FX50 (that I or my installer could contact) I'd appreciate it!

Thanks.

Bump. Anyone able to help with my request above? JdTrader how about the installer that did yours? Anyone else?

Thanks!

Sorry for the late response but I've had three FX's two 1st gens and the 2nd gen I own now, my wifes 09 Murano as well. All of them were/are hooked up to operate with my factory key fobs so I didn't/don't have to carry two remotes. Keep in mind I also have the Smart Start module so I am never concerned with range. If I didn't have the Smart Start I would definitely have bought the Viper with the two way remotes so the car would confirm a start. I've had the two way remotes in the past also and they work very well. They have two way remotes that work with simple lights so you can still get a two way without a fancy LCD screen. If your main concern is say heating up your car in the morning and you live in a house where you park right outside then the factory key fob should have enough range. You may have to walk to a window on the side of the house where the car is but it has a decent range.

My installer is very knowledgeable unfortunately I don't think too many installers would sit on the phone with another shop trying to troubleshoot a car in the other person's shop. Did he call Viper directly? Surprisingly I've heard their customer service is very good and they will walk him trough the whole installation if necessary to troubleshoot.

We tried viper several times, got 3 different answers and all were wrong. :/ One guy actually told us to cut into the harness followed by a guy that said we should never have cut into the harness!

The question we have should be straight forward enough. If you have an installer that has installed the viper remote start on the FX50 it would be very helpful. If they don't want to answer a quick question or two they can always say no ;)

If you can help please do! It's been crazy. Right now the only way I can get remote start to work is if I hide the secondary Infiniti keyfob in the car. Not something I want to do for much longer ;)

It will only work if they do it data to data with the by bass module .

By the way Viper is made by a company called directed electronics inc or none in the business DEI

If your car don't remote start with the key outside the car its the transponder issue.Have them check out the bypass they are using. They should of known that at the shop. The only reason it starts if the key is in the car is that the car see's the key(the transponder)I don't know what bypass they used so i can't help you there but most have to be flashed before getting installed. It could be something as simple as flashing the unit again or the bypass is defected.I have been installing for over 25 years and a MECP first class installer.

I see a lot of you guys are buying a 2 way alarm remote start with smart start. I ask why? The LCD remote has a limit to the range but your phone don't. Think about it for a minute. Your cell is now a remote without limits unless you don't pay your bill LOL . So if you planning on buying a remote start and smart start save yourself some money and don't buy the one with a 2 way pager ,you don't need it.

We know it was a transponder issue. The issue turned out to be duplicate signalling due to the data bus signals and the switch signals. The solution was to disconnect the brake switch and another connector, I forget witch, so that the car is now just using data signaling. Essentially what you said in your earlier post and funny enough we figured it out the day before your post. But was spot on.

As to your.. question? We buy a lot of things that we don't need. Like a 400 horse power SUV. I am not really even sure your question needs an answer, it should be obvious if you've worked with many of these systems :) Just ask anyone who has both how often they use the remote vs the smartstart application. Think about it for a minute. It's about speed of access and convenience. The keyfob remote is faster by several seconds AT LEAST than messing with the app and dealing with the delay.

The app is more of a safety net and way to check on the status of the car from anywhere than a daily access tool. Imo.
