Turbo, I heard you are the sunlight lcd master.

What recommendations do you have for a 7 inch lcd that is viewable in the daytime? Currently I have a Lilliput but can't see nada in the sun. I just recently changed out my mac for a laptop with a RR front end and it would be nice to see it in the day.

Thanks

I was actually just looking at that lilli but it said it is out of stock. You have any idea when they will be back in stock?

The only thing I can see now with my screen is a reflection of my roof...hhehe:frown:

I've heard nothing but good things about the Xenarcs, however I don't believe I've seen anything as specific to your needs as John pointed out with the anti-reflective version...

ah, of course you seen it doc, it was up there a whole 7 minutes

the xenarcs have always been considered the better screen but over the years the lillis have gotten to be about as good. they both used the exact same lcd's at first, but the xenarc controller was better & the cases higher quality. the lilliputs used to be very easy to damage as the connectors & cabling was pretty flimsy & tons of guys screwed up there lilli's. the liliputs are much better now & not a lot of difference between them anymore.

the xenarcs now use an lcd that's not best for a sunlight readable conversion, it has ribbons coming off of 2 edges of the lcd & is harder to work with. the lilliputs use an lcd that lends well to the transflective upgrade. with the conversion they are expensive, but worth it, especially the newer led backlit ones. if you can't see it during the day it's useless & the screen is the whole carpc really, the other components & all of it's function are useless if you can't interface with it.

Hey John I was just wondering.. Is it possible to change the oem screen with a better more better quality looking one? If yes, which are the best brands? Also would those aftermarket ones will fit right on without any alterations?

Thanks.

Jonathan.

There are MANY screens that will fit, but none will REPLACE.

You must relocate and still use the stock screen due to the CAN Bus software not available.

the stock nav screen is a very good composite screen, you'd have a hard time finding something to replace it that's better as a direct replacement. the stock screen uses an RGB interface which is common on factory screens of this size, but not aftermarket.

now if by "better" you mean higher resolution & able to take a regular vga pc input & with a touchscreen, then the problem becomes how to display the OE RGB signal on the replacement screen. there are RGB converters, but the issue there is that nissan uses a funky dual sync RGB interface, I'm trying to find a suitable RGB interface that will allow you to display the stock RGB feed on a vga monitor. if that happens, THEN the stock screen could be replaced with a vga screen & you'd be able to switch sources, from stock tech display & then at the push of a button switch to a pc display, but honestly this is not a huge priority to me so I have not put huge effort into finding this solution, but am discussing & exploring this possibility...

there's aguy from this thread http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/worklogs/127015-2007-fx35-carputer.html who is suposed to be sending me one interface to try, but last I heard he hasn't sent it yet.... when I do have some more time I'll extend my search for suitable interfaces to try, but the dual sync issue is a stumbling spot for sure...

& oh yeah, the CAN buss has nothing to do with the RGB display, ther is no CAN communication in this screen interface at all...

Well thank you so much john for the detailed answer. No my other question is.. Do you think nissan might have a oem touch screen that might be comparable with our FXs? I was thinking why go thru all that trouble when one can just get a better factory screen. It's just a thought

Pretty sure the guy sold it already. The post was made in oct 2010.........
