belt

ok thought all was well but now the car sequels like a mofo at start up. it would scream then maybe 10-20 secs later it would stop and be gone, then squel again next startup (pretty embarrashing). I just installed gatorback belts and thats when it started to happen. let me know what you guys think is it too tight? too loose? bad bearings? what? need to fix this asap.

Ok my engine bay started to make funny noises so I looked and noticed that my AC belt is like ripped in the middle, but still on the pulley.

I must say, I really love this forum. This will save me $400 bucks.

Do we have a part number reference for the "Gator" belts or do we just tell them what car I have and they will give me both of the belts?

I've had this problem too - fixed it by taking off the squealing belt and putting it back on again. With the car off, I try to see if I can make any pulley slip against the belt. If I can, then I tighten it a bit more.

It also helps to know WHICH belt is squealing. Turn your AC off, start the car and then turn the AC on to load that pulley. Does the belt squeal when the AC is off or when it is turned on? Turn the AC off and turn the steering wheel to load the power steering pulley. These two things should help you figure out which belt it is, or if it is both.

Bump.

I don't have a tension meter. Should I proceed with changing my belts?

Wow, that was easy.

I guess I'll just adjust accordingly if the belts start squeaking.

WOW!! I purchased it from the dealer for 40 bucks with a mechanic shop discount, and installed it.

Any aftermarket belt out there better quality and price than the oem one ?

I went to the stealership and they were charging me 450 for the belts and labor.. I was like" I'll come back later.

Did my belts about 2 months ago. All was well for a while but now i get the 5 to 10 sec squeal at startup. Time to tighten both belts i guess.

I got 40K miles on my 07 FX35, one morning last week, I hear chirping when I started the car. So I went and got Gatorback belts from Autozone to replace them. The belt sizes for 07 FX35 came up on their system as: 4060465 Alt,P/S and 4040372 A/C.
So I went to install it, the A/C belt is correct, but the Alternator/Power Steering belt is WAY OFF. I bottomed out the tensioner and it's still lose.

OEM alt, P/S belt = 6PK1148, that's 45.1969 inches
Gatorback = 6PK1180, that's 46.4567 inches

The Gatorback is 1.2598 inch bigger. Needless to say, I was pissed. Then I went on Gatorback's website, and found out that they don't even make a 6PK1148 belt. Closest thing to it would be 4060450/6PK1145.

6PK1145 = 45.0787 inches
OEM 6PK1148 = 45.1969 inches

It will be .1182 inch smaller, but I think the tensioner can handle that.

So I go back to the Autozone to return the belt that didn't fit and asked for the 4060450/6PK1145 in Gatorback. Guess what? They don't stock it! Special order only, $18.99.

So for those that are planning to change your belts with non-OEM belts.. Here are some info that might come in handy, so that you don't have to jump through hoops like me..

OEM: Alt, P/S belt = 6PK1148, 45.1969 inches
A/C belt = 4PK945, 37.2047 inches

Gatorback: Alt, P/S belt = 6PK1145, 45.0787 inches (best possible match)
A/C belt = 4PK0945, 37.2047 inches (fitment/installation confirmed match)

**Based on a STOCK 2007 FX35 4WD**

it just hit me: my belt is squeaking too! ;) I have changed the A/C belt two months ago, but it is probably the P/S. Can "rusted pulleys" squeak too? Also can the the "belt greaser" be a remedy here?:) I have try to spray a bit of this "medicine| but it actually made the squeaks louder

lol

Belt tensioning is not needed. Both FX35 and FX45 have an Auto Tensioner.

Can't beat that. I went to O'Reilly's and it was roughly $70+tax total.

Jumbo posted that Gates is what Stillen uses for their supercharger packages. Gates is also a well known brand so it was a no brainer for me.

If you want OEM, this is the cheapest place:

Belts need replacing when showing signs of cracking.

Cheers.

Need help!;) I'm changing the ps belt now. I loosen the screw underneeth the tensioner and nothing happened:( should I remove thetensioner screw on the tensioner pulley?;)
lol waiting for some good guidance.
Thanks
Chris

what do you mean nothing happened?
it will rotate and the belt will come loose slowly.
the screw is not going to come down or anything.
you can try taking the idler pulley out but
you have to have the belt loose to put it back in.

So I have unscrewed the B all the way down and PS belt is still tight
should I unscrew A idle pulley?;)
is the tensionmeter below the pulley?
Thanks 4 the fast reply;)

I have a 2007 FX35 AWD, and it does not have an autotensioner. I wish it did..

I have just installed the 4060450/6PK1145 Gatorback belt last night, everything fits fine, no sqeaks and the tensioner range took care of the .1182 inch difference that I had mention in the earlier post.

You have to loosen bolts A and C in order for the tensioner to raise up.....otherwise it is going to stay in place when you loosen B/D...
resulting in nothing happening

Loosen bolts A and C with a 14mm socket. Then loosen B and D with a 12 mm socket. You will see the belts come off very easy after that.

Thanks guys finally got there, but it appears that my Masan dealer sold ne belt that is almost an inch longer. Wrr they have matched belt via vin and is still wrong one so after 2 hrs of mystery I gave up. And there s no auto tensioner by me:(
thanks
Chris

Are "A" and "C" actually bolts or nuts? I somehow managed to strip both of mine and would like to pick up replacements from Autozone on my way home? Thanks.
