BC Coilovers Info & Unboxing (03-08 FX35/FX45)

Leaving all the settings and adjustments as it came from BC actually dropped my car from 4 fingers to around 2 and I have about 1-3/4 inch's left that I could go lower (remember I have 275/40/20's). The ride feels very similar to the eibach's but I haven't adjusted the hardness/softness settings yet. I probably won't drop it more until I give it a couple days of settling.

very similar to the eibachs sounds good, these things do look so nice... my biggest concern would be longevity or how well they'll hold up after a year or 2 & some mileage accumulates, but if the warantee & service from bc is good then should be fine... I'd love to check these out... I wonder if they use replaceable cartridges?

You should notice a tighter steering feel, and more comfort over the bumps. At least that is what I noticed. Of course this was not on my FX so your input will be better for that reason.

They look nice, but I'm worry about further camber wear. I already have camber wear on the entire right side of the car because it is out of spec and they cannot correct it to factory spec.

I suppose I can pay to play.

camber problems are really going to be an issue the lower you go, this is not a fault of the coilovers but is because of the suspension geometry of the fx itself.

there are 2 solutions,

one is to "pull the lower arms in", which is what all the camber bolt kits & slotting the lower holes in the subframe does. while this may correct the static camber for an alignment at static ride height, it does nothing to help improve the now much worse camber curve, or how much the wheel cambers as the suspension compresses, so even if you get an ok static alignment you can still have tire wear problems because of the increased camber curve ...

a much better solution to me is to relocate the rear upper arm pivot points. this will alter the rear suspension geometry & compensate much better for the drop & go a long way toward correcting the overall camber curve, along with also helping to get a good static alignment. my fx is dropped a few inches more than just the H&R's, yet I was able to get a perfect static alignment with no other mods or camber bolts or anything else by doing just this... this is not even something that an aftermarket arm could help because the pivot point would still be the same & that is where the real problem is when going much lower than factory dialed ride height... the problem is in the angles of the arms themselves...

My wife almost got into a serious accident with my previous car after aftermarket camber arms failing (poor welding and corrosion over time). I don't know if I can be convinced to go aftermarket again.

If worse comes to worse, I just eat the tire cost. I don't drive the car much. I love the idea of going lower. I would love to get lower profile tires and go another 2 inches.

I'm just crossing my finger for long term reliability. I would hate for this thing to fail with my kids in the car when I drive it.

I just tried adjusting the fronts to 11 clicks from hard and left the rears at 8, the fx feels a bit smoother and not as rough...will mess with it more on Friday.

Weight (using a bathroom scale)

Coilovers
FR = 14.8lbs
FL = 14.8lbs
RR = 10.8lbs
RL = 10.8lbs

Stock stuff with Eibach's
FR 22.8lbs
FL 22.8lbs
RR 17lbs
RL 17lbs

Weight Savings = 28.4lbs

i wouldnt worry about 2 years, i have guys that have had them for 4 years. bc is great with the warranty process, other companies make you wait a month. this isnt the case in fact its very little downtime...east coast 1-2 days...west coast 3-5 days. thats it :)

Anything that doesn't move down when you get in the car is unsprung weight. Strut bearing - no. Lower shock mounting bolt - yes. You could probably count a little less than half of each coil over as "unsprung"...

Interesting in knowing about ride Q compared to the KYB/HR combo currently on our FX. It's bouncy but knowing how harsh the Ohlins on my STI can be, not sure I want the same for our 'luxury' vehicle

I can tell based on the other Coilover (megan) I test drove, Megan coilovers rides very good, not harsh at all and feels much more planted, not bouncy. SInce BC is a better quality, I would assume these would be better. I have H&Rs and I would consider getting coilovers after I test drove one. (just have to convince my cpa lol):tonguey:

Pretty much how I felt after riding on the Megan's too, minus the cpa part. :laugh:
