And time!
Listen to this guy, he knows of what he speaks!
The STS kit "done right" will be more than $12K in my opinion because of two reasons.
One, the quality of the parts that come in the kit is so bad. I've seen a build first hand with an STS kit and all the pipe metal that comes with the kit is not high grade stuff. I saw a guy install the kit, then three months later rip out all the rusted pipes and had a shop remake with Stainless Steel. He considered getting the STS kit coated but it would have cost him more than he wanted to pay.
Two - No matter how you slice it, this is a custom install. The STS kit is indeed universal but you still need to fabricate (weld) all of the exhaust flange connections, the exhaust to turbo manifold, up pipe, hangers, isolation mounts & heat shielding. There will never be a kit for these items unless you convince a shop to develop one for a group buy. Even then they will just produce several at once and the "kit" will not be available for future buyers unless they organize a similar deal. The shop won't make more than they have committments to buy - there's just not a big enough market.
What you CAN do is collect all the parts that work for your build here on IS. Seems like you are starting with an STS kit and we are talking about that. It also sounds like you might have a shop you are talking to?
Once it comes time for install, you MUST be working with a shop unless you have some kind of hook-up? Finding the shop that will eventually do the install for you should be your first step. They will have certain products they know and trust and will want to use. You might pick what seems like a great product but if the shop isn't comfortable installing it or they have had bad experiences... plans change. Get them to look at the car on a rack and then count the number of welds they think they will need to do on the hot side of the STS kit. I believe the cold side uses silicone couplers?
Just trying to get you started on the right track - been down the custom FX build path myself and can help you avoid the pitfalls that I hit.
