I recently took in my 2005 FX35 in for service...was told by service tech that both of my catalytic converters [P0420, and P0430] needed to be replaced...proceeded to quote slightly over $2k for the job...parts are out-of-warrenty...

Does anyone have an suggestions on were to get a better price in the Southern California area?..please advise.

Other than what your tech has told you do you have any reasons to believe they are bad? If not ask for another opinion. If they are bad (which would be unusual) find a used set. If you are considering performance find and install a quality set of HFC's.

Another important note, if they really are gone you'd have a CEL...

This is a total inference, but when I first read the post I took it to mean that he went to the dealer because the light was on, and those two codes showing cat issues came up. I had the P0430 with one of my HFC's.

Could also be something with the O2 sensor though.

Did the P0430 trigger a CEL for you?

If the tech did see a code it makes more sense than a random CAT failure call. I'd Still make sure it's real then consider your options.

Wont hurt to try a different gas and see if it clears..I had similar reading (different code) on my Audi and tried different gas. After 60 plus miles I had a friend with the computer to retest and was good. Was looking at similar price range.

I got those codes before on my hfc.all of a sudden after I kept driving with them for a while the code disappeared. Just reset the code and keep driving it see if it comes back on again

Wow, that's a lot of money for just replacing a catalytic converter, my friend. I would probably try "JCWhitney" to get the converter and any other associated parts, which is not a bad option for replacing exhaust system components, and then have someone besides an Infiniti Service Center Technician to have installed. You may save more than half of that outrage quote and without compromising quality to your FX35. I mean, that would be my direction if I was you!
