Bad "air boot" will a intake fix this?

I'm out of town for another week so I can't look under the hood. My gf told me she is getting jerky acceleration. Took it to the shop and they told her its a bad air boot. Infiniti wants $400 to replace. I spoke to mechanic and he said it was a piece of the intake cracked and was sucking too much air.

Would just getting a aftermarket intake bypass the factory air boot? I only have my phone with me on the road and haven't been able to find a diagram that shows me what part it is. I would like to just order parts asap.

Also on Amazon I see some universal air boot hoses would one of them do the trick.

Sorry for the noobishness, but I can't even picture the part they are talking about.

Yes an aftermarket intake will fix this. A lot of guys have aftermarket intakes, maybe someone can sell you their stock one. I have my stock intake sitting around but i am in Canada. $400 is a rip off. I believe the boot is the accordian piece that connects to the stock air box

Your dealer techs are a bunch of airheads if they were seriously asking for $400. Lots of intake parts on ebay, fx35 shares common parts with many 3.5vq engines and you'll see bargains.

The Stillen CAI with the Z tube reuses the accordion boots from the OEM intake so that would not be a solution

This happened to me and I ended up ordering the OEM part to get the 2 boots and threw the rest away.
The part was only about $100 or so and install is easy

Besides stillen what are other good brands? I see some generic ones floating around on Amazon/eBay that seem to replace the whole air box. Willing to spend the money if it makes a difference.
