Back to an old problem, engine cranks but does not start

Yeah, as it did long time ago, the engine cranks but won't start, all I hear is the electronic fan kicking even though if the weather is not cold, when I had that previously, all I remember I did was scanned and cleared the trouble codes, I can't remember what codes I got, I did not care much back then as the problem was gone.

I scanned it just now and got a strange code P05d6, which the scan tool described as "undocumented trouble code", which is true because it does not exist, anyway I cleared all - several times just to make sure it is gone. Well it is gone but the problem remained, I parked the car in peace, I had enough, I seriously decided to let go now.

I am on the look out for a ford edge, it is sad but it is true..

Around 20 degC.

I can not believe that I forgot to mention that, today the engine turned off while driving, several times!!
It was really scary, all of a sudden every thing goes off and all warning lights go on, the car loses speed dramatically and the steering wheel becomes very stiff, I was lucky in both cases as I was on the far right lane so I could pull over and bring it to safety safely, once out, I start the engine and it would drive normally.

Wow that is really something off.

Just remember when this happens the steering and braking will go stiff because you lose the power assists to these systems. So it just takes more human strength to muscle the car to do what you want, but you still do have complete control and everything will still work.

Just mentioning this for general knowledge of everyone, as I know some less mechanically inclinded drivers or people who only started driving after the era of power steering and braking think they have no control of the car when the assists shut off. They dont realize that the control is just a lot more dull.

I fixed the problem, well at least so far, I noticed that the U1000 code kept coming up under several systems but I initially overseen it, sitting afterwards hopeless I said why not try to go around all grounding points and clean them as this code is always associated with it, so I cleaned almost all grounds I could reach: negative battery cable, one around the engine block, one behind the FR headlight, two next to each strut tower, one just next to the ECU/ECM, ... and so on, then cleared all codes, the car started no problem, I tried in several times when it is as cold as 20 degC, I drove it around the block and all went fine.

Now the code U1000 still coming up but only under the Meter A/C system which is the unified meter and A/C system, I might have an idea on what caused that, I am hearing static noise coming from the front middle speaker and it might as well be the grounding of the unified meter needs to be cleaned and retightened. I have to pull everything out which I will do next weekend.

:good: I wonder if the static noise is the indicator to the problem. When did you start hearing the static noise?

I noticed it only when dealing with this problem, I do not recall I heard it before, it is not loud and initially it sounded like a tiny leaking gas, coming from the middle, I traced it and found out it is coming from the front center speaker, it happens even when the radio is off, as long as the key on ACC position.

I can now confirm that the random engine shut off problem when stationary or driving was due to a short circuit at the left bank camshaft position sensor harness connector, it is damaged and the three pins are in contact with each other.
I still have the random engine won't start problem, however it now takes less attempts than before fixing the harness connector of the camshaft position sensor.
