Back in the shop... Getting some sideskirts and a rear valance.

Yeah, you'd never recoup the mold costs. How many Rookie bumpers were sold? Like 5 including you? It's cool that you're doing something unique.

I'm curious why they had to take 6" off. Isn't the wheelbase the same? Weird that a G sedan skirt would be so long.

yeah thats what i was thinking. Not enough people would want to buy the sides and rear so i'd never get my money back on the mold.
As for cutting the side skirt i was surprised too on how long it was.

I'm guessing some of the difference between us and the G comes from wheel well size. If they run 19's with skinny tires versus us having 20s with fat tires, then there's gonna have to be some extra body there or it will look silly.

Yeah, that pic shows a lot of the extra is on the front fender. Makes sense considering our rolling diameter is ~4" larger. So iMotion, how much in other mods are they doing to the skirt other than length? Does it clear the doors or did that require a lot of cutting too?

From the looks of it I think they cut off the part on the rear of the side skirt that goes up the quarter panel, shorten the skirt, and only had to build the front section inside the door jam. Everything else seems to be good. Just looking at the green and sanded down sections.

There is always issues when it comes to taking some other models pieces and try to make it your own. Im always happy to see someone else on this site willing to experiment and make something as sexy as our FX's into a work of art..

My respect and admiration for still tryng to make the FX a work of automotive art.

Thanks man, I'm trying to keep it alive. Long ways to go. Next is wrap job. Maybe 3M satin white pearl and paint my wheels gold.

Thanks guys. Its been a lot of head scratching on the rear bumper. When we first put it up to the car i hated how the diffuser part was so big, stuck out so much, and was so close to the bumper reflectors. It really bothered me so i had them cut down the diffuser to make it look more recessed and also have about an inch gap between the diffuser and bumper reflector.
Now there's a gap between the side pieces and the diffuser so that will have to be filled in to make it flow. Sucks because the rear valance is urethane. It would be so much easier if it was fiberglass.

How much lower will that be than the stock bumper? Looks like if you air out, it will touch the ground? Always cool when someone goes all in.

I'm not sure but i told them to make sure it doesn't hit when i air out.

Love how this is coming out. A lot better then the original valence, kept it clean and simple.

That is looking much better and looks like a ton of work. Doesn't look like they left much of the original valence. So little left they probably could have started with a G35 bumper or something. Those come in fiberglass and are cheaper, you wouldn't have to worry about fit since it's all cut up.

I know right? that would have saved me a lot of money. At the time that i ordered the rear i had no idea how it would fit. I hated how bulky it was and was about to return it and lose money on shipping. Hate how it stuck out an inch and was almost touching the reflector.
My friend told me that he can make it flow and keep the body lines clean and flowing. I'm impressed with their work so far. now to see if they can pull it off on the finish.
What killed it is the deadline. I have a car show this weekend, i didn't mind missing the show but they insisted on hitting that deadline.

the thing about fiberglass molding on flexible parts is that fracture cracks will often show up after about 6-8 months. nice work tho..

Offtopic but also getting my Yamaha rhino ready for this weekend's car show. Import Faceoff in Baytown TX.
Finished up the air suspension and threw on some 19" RacingHart M5s for the show.

I don't think they used fiberglass on my rear. He told me it was filled with a plasticy material i think. Still worried that some cracks will show up gust because its molded. Would be nice if there was a place in Houston that can make a mold of this bumper then i could make a new one full fiberglass.
