Baby / Car Seat - impact on seat cushion?

My baby is starting to outgrow his car rear-facing baby seat.

I removed it after 11 months of being there, and the seat is noticebly pushed in. This is expected, as I kneeled on the car seat base and pulled as tight as I could with the LATCH system.

Therefore, my car seat base did not move 1 inch in any direction.

Now, my convertible toddler seat has a less of a "base" and is less flat and pushes more into the car seat.

Putting all my weight on the seat and pulling both LATCH belts, the car seat does not move AT ALL. Especially since I have the top anchor in too.

That being said, you can see and feel the cushion being pressed in pretty deep and is noticeable. I do have a seat protector, but wondering if anyone else experienced this.

I really could care less as my baby's safety is #1, but was shocked at how "soft" these rear seats where when pressure was applied. In my BMW it's not like this at all.

Let me mention the rear seats are firm when you sit regularly, but throw in the toddler seat, it starts sinking in (granted I also put force to ensure zero movement of the seat).

Anyway, I highly recommend the Britax ADVOCATE 70 CS. I so wanted to buy the Recaro, ever since I found out my wife was pregnant. But after reading reviews, it was hands down Britax. They even have added size protection for passengers OTHER than the baby in the seat.

Anyway, just looking to see if anyone else experienced this and also a FYI for those getting toddler/convertible seats.

The Britax fits perfectly in the FX45 rear seat btw, thanks to the FX's adjustable recline and the Britax's adjustable recline.

I have a recaro on top of a seat protector that has been in place for maybe a year now. The base does push down into seat, but it doesn't appear to "damage" the FX seat any.

We use an Evenflo that latches into the anchors and yeah, it does indent the seat. I found that folding up a bath towel and putting it under the "feet" of the car seat is enough that they don't leave marks for more than a couple hours after you remove the seat.

Cool, yeah I have the seat protector thingy, but a bath towel is cheaper and probably thicker=).

I'm going with the Recaro when the carrier base comes out, I think the car is safe enough no matter what brand seats are in there.

To each their own, but check out the car seats in stores -- you will see a significant difference in quality from one to another -- and the features.

That being said, you can't go wrong with Recaro.

I have two identical toddler seats in the back. Yes they do push into the seat so I use a thick throw folded in two from the top of the seat to the base. So basically the whole car seat is sitting/backing onto the throw. Also everytime I clean the interior I remove the car seats (although it's a real PITA with the latch system) and apply some leather conditioner on them (and find all kinds of things behind them, cereal, toys, candy, you name it)

I have the Signo G2 and like it very much, but just keep in mind that this is a pretty big seat. I wish it was just a bit smaller. I haven't really compared it to any other seats, but this thing is big.

I finally have a back seat again. Booster seats are out cuz the kids got bigger, but we were really happy w/ the Compass boosters. They're real smooth on the bottom & weigh very little. Had great safety features too.

My leather has a permanent indentation from my sons' seat. It's a forward facing Graco (sp?) and has a silly piece of plastic that protrudes. I had a towel on the seat, but it must have slipped and the plastic dug into the leather. No amount of leather conditioner and heat will get it out. Fortunately, it's on the armrest part, so in the future when we remove the seat, we'll just fold the armrest down.

FWIW, the leather is a lot more fragile than on my old IS350. In that car with the same baby seat, it didn't affect the leather at all even without a protector. There was a tiny indentation that went away a couple of days after the seat was taken out.

I've been using the prince lionheart 2 stage seat saver for the carrier base, and it's been working good so far.

I do have a problem with the buckle for the seat latch leaving a gaping hole in the seat where it latches on though.

i'm having the same problem

i'm having the same problem. my boys car seats are Graco's. i took a piece of refrigeration insulation and glued it to the bottom of the car seats. i used a bath towel for awhile, but it just slid around. i'm also noticing on the drivers seat the left side is staring to wrinkle and breakdown. i wish katzkins would make replacement seat cover for the FX.
