Axis and R1 Rims???? Cant decide

Hello all! I am new to this forum, and i am really wanting to get Axis Penta rims, or the R1 racing Drift rims. i thought about going 20x9" in the front and 20x10 in the back. Will there be any problems with this? Also, im not sure what size tire to get as far as the tire height. I want good cushion, but dont want it to be too much rubber where it looks dumb. Also, i want to keep it around the same 18" diameter as the stock tire so i dont have any speedo issues. I am also getting the H&R springs put in before i buy the rims, so i dont want any rubbing. Anyone have any opinions on this? or issues? Where is the best place as far as prices to buy these rims? i have an 03 fx35thanks!!!

in addition to what they posted over at the .ORG

I think they will look to small on the FX because of the lip design. but if you must get an offset around 15-20mm since stock is 40mm and is not flush with the wheel well.

as for tires you can go with 275-45-20 or 265-50-20 ... use the tire calculator located on the iS toolbar on top under 'Members'
 
yes, pretty much majority here is lowered on 22's. Mine is lowered on 22's and I cut my front springs 1/2 a coil and no rubbing what so ever. I've taken my FX lowere, fully loaded up the Lake Arrowhead and no rubbing either.

wow thats nice! any pics of it stationary? i am doing the H&R springs. what size tires are best? what dimensions of rim on front and back did you get? thanks for any help!

I have 22s with 265s and lowered on H&R and it will work just fine. 22s look better (usually), but the 20s are much better performance wise (unless you go with a custom forged lightweight wheel). Even with the bikerack on (heavy IMO as it is a steel Sportworks unit) and 2 full suspension MTBs on there it doesn't tuck tire, so you'll be safe!

Depending on width the offset will vary. Some here are running as low as +15 their 22s, but I forgot how wide their wheels are and whether or not they are lowered.
 
I wouldnt say much better performance -wise. 22's handle really well. Just make sure you get a decent brand

Yep that's true, possibly due to the shorter and stiffer sidewall. Straight line performance should suffer because of the additional weight and greater rotating inertial mass.

Ehhh something along the lines of this...
The equivalent weight of a wheel and tire assembly would be equal to the rotating inertia of that assembly divided by the square of the effective radius of the tire. (The effective radius is the distance up from the track surface to the axle centerline as the car launches.)
 
All true what you say.
Generally we all try to get the same Overall Diameter with rim & tire in the end whether 18,20 or 22.
That being said, the larger sidewall tire you have is gonna weigh more than the smaller. So there may be no savings in the end anyway. The larger tire with a smaller rim may even weigh more if you think about it. Also, Tires, even if the same model are not created equally either. A 45 vs. a 35 ratio is gonna be built really different. I think one has only to gain by going with the larger rim, & getting a better handling tire mated with it.

As long as you keep overall rolling Circumfrnce the same, the speedo stays the same. That's what everyone usually tries to achieve

Lemme add, that I've sported both sizes. I didnt notice any diff in takeoff speed. Of course I'm just comparing to dead weight stockers.
The handling is far superior with the 22's & greater tire patch hitting the floor. Night & Day
 
ok decided to pull the trigger and buy the 22" rims from the guy in the classifieds. thanks for all your help in making me decide to get 22" instead of 20"! i think they will look nice on my silver fx!
