Autodownloading phone book -- what does this do exactly?

What is purpose of Auto Downloading a phone's phonebook? When this option is enabled, then when a phone is connected you can't do much for a long time (I assume depending on phone book size) like stream bluetooth audio or switch to another bluetooth device for audio.

I notice that the phone's phonebook and call history are available immediately, so what functionality does auto-downloading the phonebook give me?

Thanks,
Steve

But I have that already, as far as I can tell. Voice commands bring up entries in my phone's phonebook, although it doesn't recognize very well.

it never works well unless your phone book is filled with John Smith and Jane Roberts.

The car seems to down load all my cell phone contacts into a seperate list in the hard drive but then I have to individually select any entrys from this list and place it in the actual "car" phone book one at a time? Does that sound right?

I haven't been able to do the download of data from android. (06 tech bt) I have had other devices that had a similar feature, and i think it worked on some older standard which the phones no longer support?

I can add numbers to the phonebook manually and then call them via the voice command fine, just not download from phone.
