Auto starting w/door locks

Hey Guys, Just bought a 2003 FX35 last month and came across this site which has some great info. I have a question for you veterans out there regarding automatic starting on my car when you open and close door locks several times. After eating at local restaurant valet brought my car around and told me door locks not operating, so I said impossible as I had just used them that evening, when I proceeded to show him ( I opened and closed them several times) the car just started right up! Keyless start was in OFF position so I waited until I got home before shutting off in case it didnt restart/shut off. While driving I did move ignition to start position and all worked well when I got home. This morning I simulated the event as it happened last night and lo and behold it started again with the locks being open/closed several times. Is this normal or do I need to go to infinity to have checked out @ $130. an hour, any help would be greatly appreciated. Buzz (sorry for long winded explanation)
" To Infinity and Beyond " LOL

Your car is equipped with a remote starter. If you click the lock button three times consecutively it will start your car up. Then once you get in put your key into the ignition and turn it to the start position and drive. I had a Viper Kit installed by the previous owner and didn't even knot it until I started my car up by accident a few times. It's an added bonus! If you want to tun off your car after remote starting it just hit the brake peddle. Welcome to IS

It's not a standard feature it's an added piece that you can get installed from a specialized shop. The most popular one is made by viper. That's the one that I have installed in my car.

And I believe the locking three times is standard but I'm not entirely sure.

Hey PaulieKB, Thanks for the response, I kinda figured is was some kind of remote start but wasnt sure if it was factory. I havent had a chance to play with it, maybe over weekend will mess with it! Have to try that brake suggestion, hopefully it will shut off as you say. Great site and thank you once again for info/invite, you are right it definately is added bonus, thinking about going back to dealer and offering him more money! LOL

Lol no problem man! Trust me this place has saved me a ton of time and money. I am actually in the process of replacing a bunch of parts on my car now. I had to remove my bumper and everything. We have a lot of great guys here who know a lot about these cars. Good luck with the car and enjoy the upgrade haha !

I just tried and it didn't work so disappointing! I have the viper as well. Don't know what the additional thing is but I guess I don't have it. All I could accomplish is rolling down the windows when I did the unlock...then I had to go roll them up

Paulie/Blueduck, Last night I hit the unlock on my key fob 3x and vrrrrrrrooooommmm I hear that nice "growl" sound, she started right up! I did as you said and stepped on brake and car shut right off- so I guess the system is viper and it must have the "additional" add ons. Later today Ill go on viper website and download PDF. Thanks once again for your help, I hope you dont have to spend too much to get your ride in shape, I just went for new valve covers (plastic) w/gaskets and rebuilt steering rack. Car has 81000 mi one owner. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

A remote starter is a nice option; especially it is cool out now. Did you do the valve covers yourself? If not, I'm wondering how much did the shop charge.

Yes it is! Here in the northeast and your part of the country it should come as a standard feature.lol As to your question, no, the vehicle has after market warranty which covered both repairs. New valve covers and gaskets (both) sides was just shy of $1000. Shop charged $100/hr and the book calls for 3hr labor. Infinity charges $130/hr here in New York, thats where I went for steering rack $500. If you do valve cover gaskets make SURE you use a gasket sealer or else they WILL leak after install as I unfortunately found out, and had to have it re-done @ shops expense. But all the headaches were worth it as I love driving this car. Please dont take this the wrong way as Im not bragging but just saying, Ive owned a Mercedes ML430, BMW350i,BMW325ci conv, Audi quat A4 V6 3.0 and somehow I enjoy this ride more than the others! I even joined this chat site because of it!:smile (2):Peace Merry Christmas! Buzz

Yeah, I have done a couple valve covers already. Gasket sealer is a must even though there is a rubber gasket use. I do believe that the FSM do calls for sealer as well.

Kinda figure it around that cost for parts and labor. It pretty involved and time consuming.

La_FX35, I need to clear up a comment in my previous post regarding the $500 cost for steering rack replacement. That price was just for dealership labor. I dont want to give bad info, I had 2 claims open at same time so warranty co. decided to provide the rack to the dealership. I know for a fact that we got 3 different prices locally ranging from $450-$1300 just for the replacement rack. The $1300 was dealer quote so if anyone has similar issue as you can see you definately must shop around.

Blue, definately a nice option to have, I spent Saturday morning looking for cut off switch under dash in glove box and anywhere else that I thought would be a likely place they would have installed it but could not find it/ or who the manufacturer is. From the info PaulieKa provided it has all the viper features (unlock button 3x to start/step on brake to shut off) I need to go to a installer anyway as I bought car that had sat radio button but was told my radio not sat ready, 12/2002 production model. My son and I spent 3hrs @ an install shop that told me they wouldnt be able to make my OEM radio sat capable and I didnt want after market with wires/antenna all over the place. Although we have a large radio market here in NY I miss my sat radio.

You can buy the oem sat radio tuner antenna and harness on ebay and you will be good to go

Mys300- Thanks for info, Sirius radio rep suggested I go that route but as I said above local install shop said it couldnt done due to 12/2002 manu. date radio not able to be "updated" and after 3hrs and a scracthed rear seat (that really pissed me off) I left. Im going to try another shop and try my luck. Meantime, Im gonna try a friends suggestion and go on ebay for an OEM sat radio tuner antenna/harness! LOL Thanks again, Merry Christmas! P.S., Notice quite a few NYers on this great site.....Cheers:good:

Hey Mys300, Thanks for link, that unit does not apply to 2003 fx, only 04 and up. I phoned another local installer and he told me Id have to try dealer as the unit is to old he too believes Im out of luck. I went to Amazon and did however find this fix for only $39 bucks. This Amazon does Ipod/w charger and I have XM app on my android I can play thru tape deck directly not thru FM signal. I ordered one will give update if interested. Here is the link. http://www.amazon.com/iDeck-Integra...ref=lh_ni_t?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3I50UYZYZGBBX

Sorry about double reply but I couldnt post you a link unless I passed 10 posts. I am no longer a I/S virgin Yeah!!!!! Think Ill go smoke a cigarette that felt good! LOL

Yeah I have a cassette adapter for my iPhone. It's annoying to not be able to use the steering wheel controls and such though. I've been looking for an alternative but so far nothing under 200 dollars has came to light. My cousin suggested an aftermarket piece that plugs into where the CD player goes. (You essentially unplug your CD player cable and plug the iPhone adapter instead). Then you run the iPhone cable from your trunk into the car and your CD player is just there but doesn't turn on. It's a costly piece though. For BMW it's a 600 dollar accessory. I'm not entirely sure how much for Infiniti.

Hay buzz you live in Huntington LI and you never heard of a remote start. I know you must of passed Planet Audio like a million times on Jericho Turnpike.
