Audiocontrol Epicenter

great bump on thread, I was just thinking about this project a few days ago. :smile (2): need some more bass and a winter project (low low budget).

A couple of months ago I refinished the epicenter installation.

I can't say enough about the addition of the epicenter and the amp/sub. The Epicenter's adjustment knob mounted just under the dash allows me to tweak bass for each song. Usually I adjust for each CD I'm playing - it's usually not necessary to adjust during a disc.

I have tried using compressed music (both 128K and 256K compression) and the Epicenter does a great job of restoring the bass - but the high/mid ends sound a little flat and empty. Since the Epicenter doesn't touch the mid/high range, lower compression rate (or lossless) music is really needed for me to enjoy the sound in the car. Since the rest of my system is the stock Bose system, I've just moved away from compressed music and stick entirely to CDs. Yes, I understand CDs are technically compressed but I consider it essentially lossless. I rarely listen to the radio for the same reasons but with the Epicenter, CDs sound GREAT in my car.
