All it takes is just patience and no cutting. The CF is very stretchable and if you pull and heat it right it will wrap like a glove. I'm wrapping my BMW mirrors tomorrow, I will attempt to take a video of how I do it, if that helps anyone. It took me less than 10 minutes to wrap the FX mirror, including trimming the extra vinyl.

Aw thanks! As long as no one is starring at the mirrors from a nose away length they look good :)
 
+1 for the CF vinyl being pretty forgiving with time and pacients. I wraped my buddys STI hood scoop so he didn't have to spend hundreds of dollars on one and he loves it. Very nice write up BTW, I would be so pissed if that happened to me the first week, ugh... what are the odds.
 
I was fearing that wether it would get damaged or stolen LOL. with damaged I can deal with, stolen all hell would break loose
 
Ha Adam, CF wrap is nice. Are planning on using the Q5 signal next? Very interested to see the light out from them if you're. You should :smile (2):
 
Yeah I think I will try the Q5, just need to save up for that one :) and just so you know ... it won't go in the cover :ninja:

As always, very impressive mod Andy. I wish I am that handy ... or maybe you can guiniea pig my OEM mirror cover just collecting dust. LOL. :tongue (2):
 
The carbon fiber wrap looks even better. Now u just need to start making some and selling them. I bet many I'll jump on them.

Let me practice some more before I open a mass production :smile (2):, like turbo said, it will take me 2 or 3 tries before I get it 100% right.
 
Once I started there was no going back, plus I'm stubborn that way. But if I was to do it now again, I'd take a different approach :) still worth it, just time consuming and definitely for those with a good amount of patience.

thats exactly what i said to myself once i made the first cut lol. takes a lot of time and patients and Im still not finished. GetLucki, i need your help with wiring.. it keeps shorting out for some reason. i did your step by step instructions and used connectors in the mirror housing in case i wanted to take them apart. so the light work fine when i test the signals that have the wires coming out of the them. but then i connected those wires to the ones i ran in the housing, test that and nothing but some sparks.. so i tried the other mirror thinking that maybe one of the wires i ran is cut open and sure enough the other mirror had the same issue. too unlikely for both of them to have that issue right?

Sounds to me that the positive wire got shorted to ground. It's outer shielding/jacket must gotten ripped through and the copper is touching bare metal (body ground) when you're fishing it through the door. Both left & right wires that you feed to the outside for the mirror did the same to you? A quick continuity test on the positive wire to body ground on the wires you put in will give to a good indication if the wires were shorted to ground.
 
Thanks ill try the continuity tester. I was thinking the wire shield got ripped too. It's doing it on both left and right mirrors. Unless, if the wires got crimped somewhere, would that cause a short? There's not a lot of room to play. But ill pull all the wire out again and see if I see a tear to where the copper is exposed.
