Anyone know where the cabin fusebox is? FX35 2006 AWD

Hey guys im tryin to find the cabin fusebox on my fx35, trying to unplug the 4x4 fuse? Gas mileage sux, and i dont really need 4x4 all the time. :tdown:
 
The cabin fuse box cover is located to the left of the brake pedal, oriented vertically on the kick panel.

Why would you do that, didn't john (turbocad) say that the front diff. disengages at 12 mph?

Its not the AWD system that is affecting your MPG, its your driving style (hard on the pedal) and conditions (stop and go, hilly terrain, etc...).
 
Stulax: Its an urban legend that has been around as long as AWD cars have been around, just like lowering the tailgate of a pickup. If you want the 5cent answer, IME the drivetrain losses are caused by the rotating masses, not by the viscous couplings and clutches that apply force to the front drive shaft. The only way to bypass these is to put unlocking hubs on the front wheels, a'la 1980s trucks. What would TRULY increase MPG is to gut the front AWD components of driveshaft, pumpkin, fluid, axles. This will eliminate their rotational inertia and reduce weight, which are both proven to increase efficiency.

As was mentioned above, the best way to increase MPG is by modifying your driving behaviour and maintaining your vehicle, including tire pressure and fluid changes.

The reason it is ill-advised, is that many cars rely on mechanical pumps to move lubrication within the drivetrain. When you disable any electronic controls systems you run the *risk* (I have not studied the pumpkins or xfer case on the FM platform) of reducing or eliminating lubrication causing unnecessary wear and tear.

If the possible gain is 0.1mpg, and the possible loss is a mechanical component in the $1000 neighborhood, why risk it? Do the easy things first. Heck removing the sound deadening will probably get you more than disabling the AWD system.
 
Does the front transfer case take more wear if the fuse is removed? Kind of like towing a car with the drive wheels on the ground.

Now you're with me ;) EDIT - just an FYI, there is only one transfer case. I think you meant front diff, and thats probably what I would be most concerned with. Flat towing is identical to removing a fuse. Well, as close as you can get anyways. The rear pumps and hopefully the xfer case pump are still working. But Infiniti does not allow flat towing:

Therefore disconnecting the front system is ill-advised.

Flat towing is different than pulling the fuse because in the latter case the engine and all lubrication systems are on.

I'm going to verify with the wiring diagram tonight but I'm pretty sure the fuse just protects the transfer case engagement solenoid. The same solenoid that disengages at ~12mph in normal driving conditions. It's been a while since I looked at that section but I think the lubrication system is independent of that circuit.
 
I'm fairly sure 12mph threshold is only when snow mode is engaged. I believe it uses the same architecture as a g37.

From a start, ATTESA E-TS always starts at 25/75 F/R and then goes to 0/100 F/R if no slip is detected in normal conditions. In Snow Mode, the car starts at 50/50 F/R until it reaches 12 MPH and then goes back to normal 0/100 F/R if no slip is detected. Snow mode also slows the rate of throttle opening. The system can can split power to a maximum of 50/50 under slip conditions. 4-Wheel Limited Slip (ABLS) applies braking force to any of the drive-wheels that do not have traction.

Regardless, it's a silly approach to increase mpg. In the extreme a flash storm happens and you're wishing your AWD was functioning. Why buy an AWD car to disable the AWD?
 
Going easy on the gas pedal = better fuel economy.

Toyota Prius is (advertised) rated at 48mpg highway. You will be surprised what Top Gear found out...
