Looking at DVD headrests and illuminated sillplates Was it a DIY or dealer only? We're about to get a 2010 model but the best match around doesn't have the DVD headrests or sillplates. The local dealer wants $2200/installed for the headrests alone - I can get the parts for $1k less.

Possible to DIY? Worst case, I can have the dealer do the install but get a fair quote first (through a service advisor and NOT the sales guy).

I wouldnt go to the dealer to get something like that done id go to an audio/video shop, id be much cheaper!

I used to run such a shop....thus my Q. DIY = me doing it. As long as things are prewired in the seat, its not hard. Even if not, its not too bad either.

the point of this thread was to find out if anybody else had done it and whether this requires more than a car stereo installer's body of knowledge to complete. I'd guess not from previous work putting screens in headrests not designed for it - its not hard. But, some OEM applications (and my Kenwood DNX9140 in my Subaru) allow two source operation off the factory stereo. The system for the FX appears to be a standalone version that doesnt integrate up front.
