Any suggestions on getting smoked head and taillights

from cheapest and easiest to the most time consuming /expensive

1. spray can VHT
2. tint it with film
3. get a bodyshop to paint the outside with tranparent black paint
4. open it up and paint the inside

Of course no.4 is going to look the nicest and it will give u than oem look than 1-3 can't possiblity achieve. so it depends on what you budget is. or if you are diying, what you skill level it. And it depends on how anal you are about making everything look proffessionally done/ oem.
 
I hate the look of tinted headlights ... it makes it look dirty ... paint the headlight housing ... do it right the first time ...

I can understand if you tint the tailights:tup: ... but nbot the headlights :tdown:
 
My Tails and third light were painted by body shop (They were the red ones) and I did the bumper reflectors myself with tint overlays.

Outside obviously cause you don't have to take the lights of and open it and reassemble it.

Are u only doin the tails not the headlamps?
 
painting or spray painting? taking the headlight housing apart and spray painting the chrome reflector is very easy and with enough time and dedication, it can be done without any professional help. as to the tail light, it's better if you can get some sport tails and spray it with JUST ONE COAT of VHT nightshade. any more and your tail light will be completely dark. GL
 
with the bulges and crazy curves of the head lights and tail lights, tinting with a film is incredibly difficult but i was able to get it done, sorta. i basically tinted the front face of the lense.

I chose to use the film so that during the course of resale I could just rip off the film.
 
personally i like tinted headlights and taillights...bad thing about it is the VHT spray tint you can buy at the local car shops is hard to remove and if you use carborator cleaner it cracks the plastic on the lights, i've had it happen to me before. I liked the look of it while I had it but the only reason why I had to remove them is because in my area the cops make you remove it or they'll write you tickets for it. So instead of the VHT I just put 30% vinyl tint on the taillights. Its cheap, easy to remove, and can play with different percents of tints with darkness preference.
 
I once saw a Vid on ehow on a DIY about tinting the headlights and tailights, harder than it looks than just reading and watching.

I wouldn't try that for now, I don't have the tools needed.
 
it's honestly not as hard as it looks..its cheap and easy and a good thing to pick up and learn how to do..makes you money and saves you money...also, painting the housing of your headlights is hard especially bc the way to open them is to bake them nd get the adhesive to peel off and if you bake them for too long you can melt the lenses and then putting them back together with the right adhesive is hard too because if you don't do it right your headlights will leak causing the condesation in them.
 
Ive done this a million times for LEGENDS. Get oracal tranparent film and wrap it in the color you want. Check out my car in my intro.

My tails are wraped in the oracal tranparent red, but they have lots of colors. Its been on my tails since 2001 and still mint.

We did this on our cars because it was half red half amber.
