any complaints of your FX?

hi guys, i'm completely new here. currently i drive a lexus GS350 and honestly i think it was one of the biggest mistake in getting this car, namely because it squeaks and rattles so much. i can continue bashing this car, but what i want to know is how do you guys like your FX, 1st or 2nd generation. i am highly considering to get the 09 FX35. i test drove it over the weekend and it drives better than the lexus. i tried searching the forum with the keyword "rattle" and it didn't come up much, just some rattle/squeak from dash and breaks. from the posts i read, seems pretty minor. what i'm talking about is constant rattles and squeaks. currently when i back out of my driveway at an angle or going through angled dips in the parking lots, it sounds like foam panels are rubbing against each other in the back of the car. when i go through speed bumps gentlyi hear a rattle in the front dash. very annoying. so what do you guys have? and you don't have to limit it to just squeaks and rattles, maybe even reliability or electronics. thanks in advance, any good comment would help.

There is some complaints on the FX rattling but a lot has to do with the stiff suspension and going over bumps things tend to rattle a bit but nothing major as you pointed out. I don't know why your GS has so much rattling as lexus's are known for their super quite ride. My GX470 rides so smooth and have never has any such rattling or squeaks. Perhaps you got some bad glueing in your GS. But enough talk on the lexus.

I have a first generation 05 FX45 and have had no reliability issues aside from minor recalls and regular maintenence. You won't regret getting an FX!

the reason why i bought the lexus was because i have always heard them to be quiet cars, boy was i wrong. if you go to a lexus forum and look under GS and search for squeaks/rattle, you'll see a whole list of threads.

here's the sad part of this whole story. back in december 07, i was the first one to buy the EX35 at cerritos infiniti (or at least that's what the sales guy told me, who knows if it's true or not) later it was in the campaign for the vehicle buy back, at the time i felt the EX was way too small inside, so i took up on that deal and was waiting for end of June for the 09 FX to come out. 1 week short of that day, i just decided to get the GS on it's quietness. i could have avoided this whole situation now, like i said before biggest mistake :tears:

Well good luck with your shopping for the right FX for you! Let us know if you have any other questions. Take a look around and use the quick search feature we have up top and the tags we use at the bottom and you will get a whole bunch of links to pretty much any topic you choose on the FX.

I love my FX. wouldn't trade it for a Lexus (ok maybe a LS460).

test drive one and see. if you really want power go test drive the FX50S.

Most of us here have the 1st gen FX and we all LOVE it. very few if any problems.

I bought mine used, and got a great deal. I spent the money saved on mods !

this is the first time hearing about rattling with a Lexus...

you can't go wrong with the new FX... go back and test drive it again... if you have to... or even test drive the FX50S... but be prepared for a whiplash when you gun the thing off the line

as much as i badly want to test out the FX50S, i might not let go of the steering wheel after it is over. my first car was a civic, and then i went up to a honda pilot, after that point i have never driven another 4 cylinder again. i'm afraid if i drive a V8, i may never want to drive a V6 again. besides, 303 hp is plenty for me. if i can get a good trade in price on the lexus, it would be a done deal on getting the FX35

Welcome. Sounds like your Lexus is a bit of a one-off maybe. One thing Lexus is known for is their refinement and isolation. If rattles and noise are the biggest concern for you I would NOT buy an FX. You are going to be very unhappy 6 months down the road. If you want a car that absolutely does NOT rattle then your choice is obviously an Audi. Built like a bank vault. Good luck with your decision.

ps: Certainly don't buy a 05 STi. I think it rattled while it was still on the assembly line.

Welcome, you couldn't pick a better vehicle then the FX, well maybe you could but you'll still enjoy the FX. You won't get much of an argument here. using the search like Doc said will help you...

Welcome to the scene. NO regrets on my FX. Best thing to do is test drive an FX and decide from that.

Love Story LOL

I love my FX and would not want anything else except an FX50S.
Mine does have a rattle or creaking sound from dash by windsheild but mostly when it's cold.
#1 Love the way it drives even stock(can't wait to get suspension braces installed!!!!)
#2 Love the sound of the FX especially when you nail it.
#3 Love the way the FX's look even stock.(even better w/wheels and mods)
Ok maybe I see why my wife calls the FX my Mistress LOL

No rattles either.
Must be the tampon stuck in the door that's holding everything together

Ya . . I yelled at her for it & she took the string back in. Havnt seen it since.
She also wears a Bra on trips

I've got an '03 FX 45 and it's as quiet as a new car. My only real complaint so far is the low miles between oil changes. 7 quarts of Royal Purple every 3750 miles can start to add up.

Two real nit picks. It has the turning radius of a small tugboat and the armrest gets in the way of the tiptronic shifter (nothing paddle shifters can't fix). Other than that I really like it. It is more of a Porsche than the Porsche it replaced. I love the way it looks and the fit and finish is fantastic. The nav system isn't as nice as my Audi, but it still gets me where I need to go.

yeah, the turning radius is terrible -I have to admit.... I've driven the Audi Q7 and it's got an awesome turning radius
