Any auction experiences???

Greetings folks! I'm looking into buying a 10 FX35, and came across an online auction. I've never bought or been to one, can any folks share any auction experiences you've might have had?

Another thing, I've noticed some cars have rebuilt/salvage titles, is there any big deal aside from resale value when buying one of those?

Salvage title could mean a lot of things. I would stay away from salvage titles because you never know what you are getting.

stay away from cars that have 'salvage', 'rebuilt', and/or 'reconditioned' title. they are worthless in so many ways, have possible safety issues and will give you a lot of headaches later on. The reason they are given such title is because they are not worth having.
an online auction may/may not be benificial. whose the seller? reputation? the pics don't do justice, the vehicle condition may be a lot different than what you saw on your computer. try to buy locally or dare to drive a few hours for that will bring you a piece of mind.

welcome to :iS: and like other people said stay away from a salvage car because you never know what to expect and its not like they will let you know if the car had been on fire or been in a flood.

+1 for clean titles. It's worth noting that some insurance companies wont even cover a vehicle with a salvaged title.
It basically means that at some point in time, the damage inflicted on the car would have cost more to repair than the car was worth. At that point the car was deemed "totaled" by the insurance company and sold dirt cheap at an auction in an attempt to recoup some of the money they paid the owner...

Thanks for the replies folks! Hope ya'll had a good weekend! I'll definitely steer away from salvage/rebuilt, unless it's for a hobby car to build up, which is not my case right now.

Any auction experiences you folks could share?

It sounds like the auction you found is a private auction.

I have a friend who buys cars at dealer auctions. I got my Mercedes from him and it came from a dealer auction. I had the same guy looking for an FX for me before I got the one I have now. He didn't find anything within the parameters I gave him before I found the one I have now at a dealership an hour from my house.

It's actually an online auction that's open to the public.. They have some pretty nice cars for cheap.. I was lucky enough to find an FX a couple hours from here.. I'm going to go inspect tomorrow with a tech.

I've owned a few salvage title cars that I bought from Copart/IAAI. None of them were worth more than 10k so I wouldnot get a very expensive car from an auction because of the above named reasons
