another @$^&%#@ spacer question

If you get bolt on spacers, no need to modify anything. If you get the kind with extended studs, you would of course need to install the new studs.

After doing two sets of the DRS spacers (stud replacement type) I'd do DRM's in a heartbeat (in fact that's what I am changing mine out to now) things change - diff wheels, wheels size, rubber...life...... you may want to swap out for a different spacer plate with the DRS spacers you are locked into that depth based on the studs you have pounded in. Originally I was concerned with safety and went with DRS, after researching over and over its a toss up, both are equally safe. Again given the choice, I prefer the option of swapping them out.

I run bolt on spacers, it's just much easier and I've never had any issues. I used H&R DRS spacers on a previous car and it was just annoying to replace the studs. The only reason I would use DRS spacers would be if they didn't make a DRM one like for smaller sizes, 5mm and 10mm. 15mm and up, I'm going with bolt ons.

New guy here, 2 questions - just bought a 2007 and want to buy spacers, but my steering wheel already shakes. Are spacers going to make the shaking worse or could the shaking magically be fixed? Also, a few posts here seem to imply that running big spacers on the front (planning on 25mm) is unsafe and/or is really bad for the shaking - is either true? Thanks in advance....

Spacers will magnify any shaking you already have. Fix that before getting spacers. 25mm isn't unsafe; it will magnify shaking more than say a 5mm spacer though. Simple leverage, if the wheel sits further out, any shake will be travelling on a longer lever. My wheels probably stick out more than most due to low offsets and spacers and right now I have zero shake. I used to, but after alignment and tightening the steering rack bolt, it went away.

Two wheel alignments, two times wheel balancing, two new front wheels, tighten the bolt on the rack and still i get the shakes. Wtf, its like my fx has terrets at 60+ mph. I have 25mm spacers in the front but dunno if thats the issue.

I'm just suggesting to get it fixed before spacers because it will be very, very annoying to have that much wheel shake. You can fix it after if you'd like, but you're the one that will have to drive around with it shaking. Spacers will not change the alignment, wheel balance, or anything else so it really doesn't matter either way.

I have 25mm spacers in the front. Now that you have done all that can be done, you should start with process of elimination. Take off the spacers, then swap wheels or swap wheels with another member to try out. BTW, have you play with this?

Yeap. Did the bolt on the rack 2 times in 2 years. Helped minimal. Gona take off the spacers and see if the shake goes away.

Im really hoping its not wheel bearings.

Idk, it seems odd to me that everyone here complains about wheel shake at 60 mph. I had an 03 tundra before my fx and had the same problem. I searched and searched the forums and the same thing was true with the tundras as well, almost everyone on the forums all had wheel shake at 60mph. Who know what the cause could be, there are SO MANY things that could contribute to the problem. Seems to me though with all the knowledge on here someone could eventually find the root of the problem. I understand we all have different setups, I just find it odd that 99% of us only experience this at 60mph as same as the tundra owners. Maybe big brother just wants us to drive under 60mph, who knows but it is very annoying to say the least!

Oh yeah, I would to also add that at least for me, I have noticed it is worst depending on the wind conditions whether into a head wind or with it to my back or side. I drive alot on the highway and have made this observation over many, many miles. Maybe it's my imagination, but I feel very confident that the wind plays a huge roll in our vibration issues. Let's face it the fx isn't the most aerodynamic car out there. Idk, I have given up and just deal with it.

Well maybe I over exaggerated the amount of people experiencing wheel shake. Non the less there are multiple treads in regards to this matter, that being said there is obviously an inheriant problem. Maybe not with all, but quite a few, there are numerous treads from adjusting the bolt on the steering rack to spacers, alignment to road force balancing. That being said, I find it interesting that most complain at the 60mph mark.
