Another retrofit question

So I recently modded my headlights with tsx-r clear lens,
cut off the post recall "v" shield and painted them.. I played with the shield and was happy with the outcome except cutoff. The front of the beam pattern was perfect with the blue/purple cut off effect but the end of the beam was curved and distorted. Maybe I shoulda payed more attention to that part before I put them back together. So I got to thinking, what about retrofitting the stock projector with either a 2.5" or 3" fx-r projector from the retrofit source. Whats the difference of a 2.5" vs a 3" lens? The width of the beam? I read that some think these are even better then the stock ones but they are shorter (more compact) . So getting to my point, has anyone done this mod and will they fit / reach the bezel since the are shorter then the stock ones? Or should I just open up my lights again and try to fix the shield.. Thanks guys

I would say just fix your projectors. The FX-R wouldn't be much of an upgrade, nothing you couldn't achieve by just working on yours. If you were going to go to that much trouble, you might as well put a better projector in there.

I have the same issue. the tsx lense give me a dumb curve. ill take it apart one day and play with it blah! If you put a different projector in, you will lose the adjustment function.

Least I know it's not just from me over playing with the shield..or maybe it is. Well I already took them apart again and will try to get it as perfect as I can. If not, then I guess I buy the 3in fxr. Let's hope I don't have to.

its gotta be the way the tsx-r lens is made. i threw back in the stock lens and the line was perfectly straight, and still had the color mod effect. im leaning on staying with the stock lens. other then the tsxr ones being clear, i dont see much of a positive difference. Any thoughts?

yep, both the middle and the ends and still no success. i dont wanna play with it too much because i dont want the shield getting stuck with the solenoid switches the high beam on. plus i looked more and found many comparison pics from hidplanet and this too shows how the tsxr is curved. i retract part of what i said in my previous post, im sure the clear lens have a wider beam but i sure wish the retrofit source didnt discontinue the fxr lens'. http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/showthread.php?28473-FX-With-Lens-Swap-Oem-FX-R-TSX-TSX-R-E30-Comparison

The post recall projectors have an extra sheild that curves the cut off

since the lens flips the image this is how the cut off looks

Got it. Well I cut the V shield since mines an '07 I'm sure I have the post recall lights. Any how , now that there's a single shield, its kinda hard to bend. Andrew at TRS told me to cut the v shield. @ Viperi, yeah if you have two shields, try bending the ends up or just play with it. Right now I'm just trying to light both headlights up now that I messed with the shields. What a pain...

When I picked up the TSX-R, I went to their store and Matt explained that the shield may have to be bent back some at the ends. But it was a case by case thing and not everyone had to. He said cut the V off first, then see how the output looks. If it's not right, bend the shield back a little. I haven't gotten around to this yet since I'm still grafting the quad projectors together.

It's funny that since they stopped selling the FX-R, everyone wants them. From my understanding, when they carried them, it took years to sell their stockpile. They were literally selling a couple of sets a month.

after a weeks + of working on two projects, (mirrors and headlights, again) I finally finished. took my time aligning the lights and tried to get the ends of the cut off as straight as possible. i was happy getting my car back together but i should have left the headlights along the first time i retrofitted, i hate being a perfectionist....

I freakin give up

and need some help.. here is the way the cut off ended up looking like. obviously way off so is there a way i can correct these without baking for the 3rd time? driver side needs to come down. i think the passenger side looks pretty good and straight but the cutoff is kinda low. if i cant get these fix, i might just buy some new projectors and start fresh with no shield tweaking...
