Add this one to the list of changing the battery mysteries!

Changed out the battery in my '08 FX with Sport & Tech packages yesterday.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that all my radio pre-sets remained. The only thing I noticed that reset was my trip odometer on the dash. The main trip odometer in the nav screen remained untouched.

Now here's my problem.....the auto tilt steering wheel function no longer works. The box is still checked off in the Vehicle Systems set up to have the column retract when exiting the vehicle. This is how I had it set up prior to the battery replacement.

I tried resetting it to no avail....the tilt/tele works if I use the switch wit no troubles....just the auto up/down feature doesn't work anymore.....

Tried resetting the memory on the seats etc also...maybe I was doing that procedure wrong though now that I think of it. Anyone experience this??

Pretty sure disconnecting the battery will lose memory states and steering wheel lift position settings.

+1 on that, disconnecting the battery for more than 5 minutes will cause all systems to reset, seats, steering wheel, radio. Unless you did it under 5 minutes then this is in deed a mystery.

I get that but after starting car after changing the battery, the steering wheel was in its upper retracted position. After it didnt go down automatically, I used the switch to lower it. You would think that after this initial seting that the wheel would then retract when key turned off & door opened on the next cycle?

Tried it a few times & it still doesnt work. Stays in the down position & doesnt retract up...

radio settings all stayed set.....only thing that reset was trip odometer on dash.... Im stumped!

Try this: turn key to on position, in your vehicle electronic settings, reset everything to factory settings. Fire up the car (door closed). After a minute it so, turn off, get out and let it sit for 10+ minutes. Return to the car, perform memory seat adjustment, then in the system check/uncheck features the way you had them. When done, let it sit for 10+ minutes. Come back and see if this worked.
If not, then I suggest disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and see if the system reset as it should.

I believe make all seating adjustments first, then save seat and steering wheel settings. From the center console menu, you have to enable something like "auto seat".

Well its FIXED! Guess what I had to do to fix it......

DRIVE THE TRUCK!

Thats it. Drove it around the block, got back home, turned off truck & got out....viola! Steering wheel retracted & all is right with the world again.

Sheesh!!

I know this is a very old post, but it will help others who have the same problem. Please read your owners manual (page 3-32 to 33 of '07 FX35) if you can't get your steering wheel or seat to retract upon opening the door. If you have disconnected the battery or pulled the fuse to check it, you will have to activate this feature. First, make sure you have checked the first 2 setting in your VEHICLE ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS which is "adjust seat and lift steering wheel upon exiting vehicle". The key must be all the way on, but vehicle not started to find this in your settings screen. Next adjust your side mirrors, seat and steering column to your comfortable driving position and then store to memory. You will know if it took, if when you later press the set button on the door and 1 and 2 lights up for 5 seconds, then goes out. If there is only a flash, then it didn't take. Now, there is the last step. It involves taking your electronic key out of your fob and inserting it in the ignition in the locked position. Do not turn the key. Merely, open and close your driver's door several times, and just like that it is activated. The seat and wheel should start moving on you. Thee Infiniti is a complex vehicle and there are many crazy routines one must go through to set up the electronics. Most procedures are in the manual. Some are on YouTube... the ones the service department doesn't want you to know, like resetting the air bag light.
