Annoying lag, when trying to accelerate

I've been lurking for a while, so figured I'd try asking a question that's been bugging me since I first got the vehicle. Please don't go too harsh on a noob :)

I'm noticing a very annoying lag, when I press on the accelerator hard. It's fine when trying to accelerate from the standstill, but it's very noticeable when cruising the highway and needing to overtake someone. Pressing the gas doesn't do anything for a second or two and only then the car responds. Very annoying, when you get in the left lane, press the gas to speed up and the car doesn't move! I'm guessing this is because of the transmission (but I am not car tech savvy, so I might be wrong) and its sluggishness to drop down a gear. Is anyone else having the same issue? I understand that it might be by design and there is little chance it could be changed, but I just want to confirm that I am not the only one.

Other than this, this is the best car I've owned so far. It's pure pleasure to drive!

to me i think it's because of the 7AT,
best solution is probably install the pedal shifters for faster down shift response

my 04 does the same, IMO all the infinitis have a lag, even BMW's.. throttle response?

Unless you really mash the pedal, the tranny doesn't drop down gears quickly.. Try driving around in DS mode, see if that helps.

Use sport/tip tronic mode to cure the lag.

Before you switch lanes, downshift a gear so the rpms are now high then gun it and merge into the fast lane. Instant acceleration

I went through the same thoughts when I first got the car. Coming from a throttle by cable car to this throttle by wire setup took some getting used to. Try double tapping the accelerator if youre in D mode, otherwise shifting into DS improves the response time. It takes some getting used to bit once you log some more miles you'll get used to it.

funny thing this issue was more noticeable with invidia during take off and less during acceleration at higher speed.

Ya its the programming in D, gas saver mode. Everytime i overtake a flip it to DS mode or drop it down a gear or two on the paddles.

Same happens to me. It's more annoying when you start to get used to, then drive my wife Mazda CX9 that is much, much responsive when depress pedal at any speed. :-(

From time to time at low speed I have to put it on DS to have an expected response. Love my FX but this is kind of weakness.

Tranny

:mad.:I thought it was just me,I have a '09 fx50s with the same problem.I have it in for routine service and the shifting issue...EVEN 2011's HAVE TRANNY ISSUES!...

Apparently, it's called a "luxury lag."
When you mash the acceleration pedal, the AT is looking for a gear.
What I do is just leave it in manumatic and downshift whenever. Also, if you're not used to using manumatic then you can just simply throw it in manumatic when you want to overtake someone.

lol its just a "smooth" acceleration lag so that the car is smooth when it takes off. Don't like it? Drop the car in DS or 1MT and turn VDC off and watch your car take off =]

Fx50 ain't smooth. You press the petal then you wait one second and then everyone is thrown back to their seats. Sometimes this happens even when you don't intent to do this. I think because you press the petal, and since you still aren't moving faster so you press a little more and by the time it engages, everyone is thrown back in their seats.

The fx50 really does haul ass for its size. Too much fun beatin up on other people like trailblazer SS's that dont expect it lol

Solution does exist. DS mode instead of D. Very nice when change lanes often. and paddle shifters is a must mod if didn't come standard.

Thanks, everyone, for replying. Looks like I am not the only one annoyed by this :)

DS is definitely better. I just need to get into the habbit of switching into DS when I need to accelerate and time matters. So far I've been forgetting to do this most of the time.

If you're cruising on the highway in D, its most likely in 7th gear. When you want to accelerate/overtake someone, just keep your foot on the throttle and just move the shifter to DS, and just by doing that should downshift to 6th, as I'm pretty sure DS limits the gear range from 1-6.

Once you're in DS, just add a bit more throttle and the whole shabang is equivalent to downshifting one gear to accelerate.
