Amplifier Power Wire Routing

hey guys,

I want to install a 4AWG power wire in order to put in an amp and sub.

I've already routed the power wire back to the back seat (passenger side), but what is the best way to get the wire into the actual trunk area? I see no route to take and would really appreciate the help!

Take out the back seat, spare tire, plastic "trunk". That will make it very easy to get where you want it.

One word of caution, if you went through the rubber grommet on passenger side to get through the firewall, IT IS ESSENTIAL that you seal it with silicon around the puncture you created. Too many people have messed up their computers due to a little water getting into the passenger footwell where the ecu is located.

Where is the firewall exactly? I'm interesting in checking mine out just to be sure.....When I remove my cabin filter getting all the way down in there, I didn't recall seeing the firewall....Maybe I can see it from the engine compartment?

Any tips on how to remove the back seat and the plastic spare tire surround? The lower part of the back seat is easy, just two pull-clips and it's out. Im daunted by the actual backing of the back seat though.

I removed the spare tire and can't figure out the plastic tub though. Are there clips that need to be snapped out? if so, what are the locations of the clips? I have nylon trim tools so once i figure out those locations then it should be easy for me.

jdTrader, the firewall is located behind your battery. To access it, take out the two plastic pieces (3 if you count the battery cover) and you'll easily be able to see the huge rubber ridged grommet with a huge black bundle of wire running through it. It kinda looks like an accordion or a plunger lol

Jonas, just look in the engine bay by the battery to find where the power cable for the amp goes into and just making sure to you put some silicone over the opening just to be sure no chance of water get into the passenger compartment. Not sure where the battery and the ECU is located, but on the first gen, the ECU is just behind the firewall and the battery is on the other side of the firewall. So many of us just poke a hole thru the rubber boot that is directly above the ECU; hence a chance of water leak on the the ECU.

Thanks guys!

superwario...all the plastic underneath the spare pops out from clips. closest to the back end you can slide the plastic off the clip and the other pieces pop out. The sides of the back you can undo by unscrewing out the hooks. Also fold down the seats and from the backseat pull up and out, it will be easier to get the two large plastic pieces out that hold the back.

I just checked....the professional audio install place did not run it through the firewall on the passenger side....instead he ran it through the firewall on the side of the driver side near where the brake fluid is. I think purposely away from the ECU...at least that is what I'm guessing considering the install place guarantees lifetime install....and knowing the install guy is maticulous, ASA certified, and has been doing custom audio on cars for a very long time.

I remember asking him a few months ago about creating new holes or drilling holes as I was curious and he said no he doesn't do that....

same with Marus when we installed the rear bumper lights...we could have easily punctured wholes through the rubber and be done, but instead we pushed it through the same fitting to keep a perfect seal. We ran all 3 wires taped up with wrapped plastic tubing on top of the wires and then taped over that and put that all through the rubber fitting where it is meant to go through no problem.

I could see any puncture especially in rubber over time ripping more and more and why silicone would then be needed....at least that is my thought.
