Aluminium Belly Pan

2008 FX35
As some of you may know GT-Spec used to produce an Aluminium belly pan for the 2003-2008 FX35/45. Unfortunately this piece was wildly expensive ($400), rare to come by as they never made it, and now discontinued.

I recently started looking at other options for custom making a Belly Pan, and I stumbled upon a guy down in Vegas who makes all sorts of cool stuff including belly pans for the 350z/g35's and G37's.

I contacted him and he told me he was indeed looking at making something for the FX, but had no vehicle to test on.

The price for his product he estimates would be between $200-$250.

I am looking for a member in the Las Vegas or surrounding areas, willing to help out this vendor in order to test-fit and make this part. I'm sure John would be willing to discount this individuals piece for helping him out.

The website for this vendor is here:

http://www.tollboothwilley.com/

feel free to check out his work. It's really high quality stuff.

And if anyone thinks they can, or know someone who can help us get this piece made that would be awesome.

How long would he need??...I am in Vegas all the time as I have friends who live there. His stuff looks quality...wouldn't mind one of these.

If you are interested I can put you into contact with him. I'm not exactly certain how long he would need the vehicle for, but I'm sure he could work around you.

I know he needs to see the vehicle and take measurements before anything else can happen. Then it would likely be a process of bending and drilling out a piece and test fitting until he has a design which adequately meets the needs of the vehicle.

Shoot me a PM with your email, and I can give it to him in order to contact you.

just as a heads up 35 and 45 have different part numberes as well as 03-05 and 06-08 have different part numbers
how they acutually differ I dont know But worth looking into

I'm interested. I can't drop my car off for him to tinker with, but I can leave him an OEM or aftermarket belly pan for a couple days.
45'er here though.

Interesting, I thought they would all be the same as GT-Spec lists just one part across all 03-08 FX35 and FX45 models. I will investigate further, perhaps phone up infinitipartsUSA and see if they can compare the pieces for me, as I know one of the guys there pretty well now.

I think they really should be the same across all models...it's the same chassis on all the 1st gens

The only reason I think Infiniti might have changed part number is because the front end facelift could possibly have altered the piece slightly, or maybe not even at all, but they gave it a new part number regardless.

Or molding indentations related to different oil filter locations. Whereas a universal one can just as easily be made. Some have the little door to access the filter and that would not line up. At least V6 versus V8.

UPDATE: I met up with John (tollboothwilley) last week and he attempted a test fit with some current pieces he has for G's and M's. No luck. The FX is different enough to warrant a new custom pan. He took all the proper measurements from my '03 45 to start the process. It will likely take some additional work and more test fits to be sure as the process continues. So, this aluminum pan option is in the works . . for the early 45's at least. It would still be helpful for 35's and/or gen 1.5's to check in with John when any of you guys are in Vegas. It seems that the minor differences could be related to the oil pan clearance and sway bar clearance. Maybe other minor things too, but there should be a universal design since GT Spec and aftermarket plastics are universal.
Here's a tease, but we need more support to get a short run production rolling.

Sub $200, I'm in for one.

From talking with him, the goal is as close to $200 as possible. Unfortunately, the FX pans are larger than the G's, Z's, M's and other makes / models he does, which are around $200 or even a little less for some smaller ones. Larger just happens to drive up cost a bit. He was very confident though that is would be less that $250. Keep in mind, this includes shipping. (I don't know for far this shipping cost extends). From everything I've seen, the price is really good.

And I will add to what Pork has said, that the stupid plastic belly pan is like 400 bucks. So if you ever crack one as many on here have previously your going to curse yourself for not snagging one of these.

Also I have seen some of John's pieces after years of abuse and they still look phenomenal.

@Pork - thanks so much for doing that hopefully we can test it somehow on a later gen vehicle preferably an FX35 and it will hopefully fit.

Maybe once he has the piece done for yours he can send me a few measurements and I can take a look and see if its remotely close to my vehicle. I'd be willing to pay for one, and test it out, if it doesn't work I'm sure I could do something with it after wards.

Oh and just as a note Pork, the oil filter location on the 35's is actually on the front of the engine, not underneath like the 45's are. So doesn't matter about holes for that for us. But if the drain plug lines up with one of the holes that would be a plus.

Hey Guys

Just wanted to let you know porkandbeans (Matt) posted up a beautiful picture of my side/butt for your enjoyment!!

I have designed up the first test piece - I sent it to my shop and just waiting for completion. After that is done we can do a test fit to confirm proper fitment or make any necessary adjustments.

From what I have seen based on other Infiniti models - the FX45 will require a different version for the oil filter door. The FX35 rwd/awd will have different oil filter locations, but I may be able to create a single door that is useable for both (hopefully). I'd like to avoid needing 3 different designs if at all possible. Its not the CAD work so much as the carrying inventory that becomes a pain.

I prefer a functional oil door in my trays - one that only requires removing 2 bolts in order to change the oil. To me this was one of the biggest design flaws on the GT Spec version.

In any case - I'll follow the thread here and answer any questions you may have as we go along.

Maybe i'll post up a rough CAD 3D drawing when I get a sec. Swamped with other things right now.

John

Nice. I would consider buying the front strip as I already have a belly pan. Prefer to to have it less the Infiniti logo but I could live with it
:). Question, mine is all punched out to allow better bay breathing, critical or not for the B pan?

That is pretty awesome. I'm glad I didn't buy the G one (I saw a few for sale on the forums and considered it since they were similar in look). I know this has been asked, but how thick is it again? Does it sit lower/higher/same as OEM? My belly pan sits ~3" off the ground right now and takes a beating. Any lower and it would rip off.

FWIW guys, he also has great pricing on polished parts. I got a quote from him a while back but never followed through because of laziness and I don't do car shows. But his pricing was really good.

Would love to have one of these bad boys too. I'm a part of the gen 1.5 group so I may be out of luck. :disapointed:

I really hope not.

GTSpec lists all the 2003-2008 FX's regardless of engine, under one part number, so unless their pieces employ wizardry currently unknown to the rest of us, I have a feeling the pieces are all the same.

Another way to compare is if anyone has another member in their area with an 03-05 45, try to compare your belly pan with theirs, just take some rough measurements and see if everything is the same.

I will likely buy the piece regardless once John has completed it, I have no problem being a guinea pig for 200 bucks.
