LMS air intake heat shields?

If the intake tubing is the same diameter, it may be possible to modify the Stillen by cutting it down some, and adding a coupler... Anything's possible...That is if you don't mind buying a $200+ intake and "hacking" it a tad. :eek.:

I've been doing a bunch of research on this subject. The Stillen intake for the FX35 will NOT fit on an FX45. First of all, the intake tube length is different, as mentioned. Second, the FX35, G35 and 350Z (all VQ35 engines) use 3" diameter intake tubing, whereas the FX45 uses 4" diameter intake tubing (as do many V8s). LMS made an intake tube for 03-05 FX45s, but the intake position changed slightly in 06 (or maybe the oil dipstick position changed?). Either way, the LMS tube won't work with an 06+. But for your 03 it could work. Ideally that LMS intake tube with the Jim Wolf pop charger is the best option for your 03 FX45 (IMO). The JWT pop charger is specifically made for the FX45, uses a larger filter element than does its V6 counterpart, and sounds pretty good to boot.
What I'm currently toying around with is modifying my stock intake tube to work more like a z-tube, meaning I am removing the plastic resonators and plugging up the holes in the intake tube with plastic pieces tightened in with the stock hose clamps to create a smoother air flow. Another option is to custom make a 4" intake tube, but this seems like quite a bit of work. If anyone has any luck with this, let me know!!
Hope my .02 helps! :)

DrFord, you can find 4" aluminum tubing in a variety of bends and lengths, along with couplers, on ebay. I bought a bunch of 3" tubing for the same reason and it was fairly cheap. Nowhere close to as much $ as a name brand intake kit...

air intake

I got the stock k&n air filter don't know about the ones ur taking about. i'm going to do cold air intake gains of 11hp:tup:

Hey, my names Joe. Thought I'd pop into this thread for a quick second. I was very unsatisfied with the air intake options available for the VK. My Number one complaint is that they all are more or less short rams not COLD air intakes. After modding various perviously owned sports cars and making a few of my own, I knew I could do better. After a coupple months research and development+:bur2: Proto#2 was a Working reality! It is a completly enclosed system that was made to still be fed by the Factory intake shroud over the fan. No more sucking in Hot engine air like other intakes. Colder air= more HP. The Vac line and breather hose have been removed from the intake path for even smoother flow. An It's a VERY clean looking setup. Couldn't be any more pleased with the end result. You can hear it breath, more aggressive than stock, but it's not too much IMO. Been running it for almost 1000 miles now, no Problems, CELs, ect... Only reset the ECU after install and it truley felt like a stronger pull at higher speeds. I am planning to get a base line dyno before and after, but funding is a little tight these days, not to mention the only 2 shops around me with an AWD dyno are booked for months. Until I get true HP numbers, I'm still staying busy. I've gotten my CAD drawings finished and sent in with the forms to the GOV for a provisional pattent. When It comes back approved, I'll be able to Share the tons of pictures I have with more specifics. I've also been negotiating bulk order component prices to drop the final cost and to have kits ready in stock. Locked in with two vendors working on a couple more. I am truley serious about this. To my fellow VK owners: This is no mickey mouse crap, 14 pieces in all, top quality components. I Love my 45 and wanted nothing less. If you are interested hold off just a little while longer, I should have a green light in 60-90 days as long as the patent office doesn't drag their feet.

just get a k&N drop-in and call it a day. The most you'll get from an intake is a few measly HP and that's after a full proper tune.

But judging by the rest of your FX style you'll probaby want a shiny chromey looking intake.

If you rally want a CAI-style intake make sure there's proper heat shielding. A lot of these intakes offered say they are CAI but really don't pull in any more cold air then the stock units that are ducted from the grille, etc. I liked the stillen setup on my 35 because it used the same power duct as the factory intake; just allowed more air flow. This is why I thought it was the best setup as opposed ot big shiney BS intakes.... A lot of these long, chromed out exposed filter craps really do nothing, and some suck in more hot air than the stock unit.
