Air intake duct necessary?

For air intake, it is fine to omit that part as it is upstream of the filter and MAF sensor. For design and efficiency, that funnels airflow into the intake system so I don't see any benefit of running without it. It delivers cold oufside air instead of hot air off the engine.
Also, other parts could be connected to the bracketry, so remove may affect other non-related parts (just possible speculation)

Is it okay to run the FX without the intake duct on? Or will it hurt something? Thanks guys!

Im referring to part seven on this diagram by the way: http://www.orderinfinitiparts.com/p...leid=1430911&diagram=3850190&diagramCallOut=1

I dont see how it would hurt it, the front duct is just to funnel outside air vs engine air. There are not sensors there and I dont see how it would hurt.... if you put a CAI its eliminating that anyway. I dont think that front box restricts it any more than the rest of the system though, not sure if there are any advantages. I really want to block off the resonators/sound dampeners right after the maf sensor, Im thinking that would give it a little more growl.

Thanks guys! Im getting the engine bay all dressed up and I am gonna get the (now) big and ugly intake duct hydrodipped carbon fiber along with the engine cover and wanted to make sure ill be able to drive the beast without it for a a week or so. Also getting strut bar, manta ray CAI, nismo caps for oil and radiator, and custom red anodized bolt kit throughout.

Nice! You'll be fine as long as nothing is too loose.

Be sure to report any differences. If it's hot out (like 100*F) you might notice a little bit of sluggishness.
Maybe.
I'm wondering if you would.

Won't hurt it. There should be another intake duct on the bottom of your filter box. I doubt it would matter that you remove the top one. The hot air will be minimal since the airbox is still in place and there is another duct feeding it. Not that it matters much; on my 35, I have a JWT w/ no ducts or anything. I even took the JWT heat shield off since it was useless. Right now in mid 90 degree weather, it drives the exact same as stock airbox w/ all ducting.

Thanks for the info shadow. Didn't know there was another duct. This makes me feel a lot better about taking it off.

Shadow: Where is the other intake duct?

There is an easily noticeable window/door on the top the main front body (part #3) that can easily come out and provide extra air. I've never seen the door removed on a 45, but have on 35's and G35's. I don't know if there is a specific reason for keeping it attached on the 45's.

I have removed my front intake duct and the duct port and my FX is driving better than good without them. However, I am using a K and N air filter in place of the stock paper filter. I have noticed that the front air scoop is not a true ram air setup through the front grill. If you look closely at your grill, you will notice that there is not any holes for the air to reach the front air scoop directly unless it is drawn in behind the grill. I believe the factory setup is good for low end torque, but removing the restricive front scoop and paper filter gives better top end horsepower due to allowing more air to quickly enter the throttle body at higher rpms. P.S. the FX45 does have variable intake manifold runners anyway, so it will still have plenty of torque at low rpms regardless of air intake used.

Sorry, ignore everything I said. For some reason, I was thinking about the resonator bottle on the bottom of the 35 airbox. I remember taking it out when I replaced it. Some people mod those to become ducts, but it's not an intake from the factory. But with that being said, removing the duct won't really matter.
