Air conditioner problems

My a/c compressor has been acting up lately. When I turn the a/c on the compressor will constantly engage and disengage. The idle will react erratically and the air will not get cool. Anybody have any ideas of the possible cause of this?

Thanks

Have you looked at the compressor? Does it look anything like this:

I'm afraid to use my AC since I can't figure out what I need to order to replace the broken sensor :(

Maybe tomorrow I'll use my AC and see if I have the same problem. If it's doing the same thing then this will be your problem, otherwise idk :dontknow:

Edit: I really gotta figure out what that sensor is... I'll take a peek at my AC compressor again tomorrow.

if the ac is cycling fast on & off you need freon... for sure... just have the system serviced & you'll be fine... when the low side see's less than a certain pressure the compressor kicks off... when the freon is low, as soon as the pump goes on the low side drops below this threshold, causing the fast cycling...

Thanks for the response, this sounds like the problem. Is it normal for a car to lose freon or does this normally indicate a leak?

some cars have very slight seapage... 3-4 years is not too bad, when you have it charged ask for dye in the system, then if you loose it again in a season or 2 it'll be easier to find... same if you loose it in a week or 2... could be a leak, some cars can go 5 years or more...
