Aftermarket wheels and TPMS

When I got my aftermarket wheels I didn't get new TPMS sensors. I thought I could swap the old ones out but my mechanic said it's best to leave them on the other wheels cuz they could break. So I'm riding without them. The light doesn't come on, just when I'm on the highway for some reason. Driving with the lights on does it retard the engine or put in a slower mode?

No impact to anything. My light has been on for 5 years now. But your mechanic is wrong too, swapping the sensors is very easy, don't think they're very fragile. I've had sensors swapped on several wheels on different cars and never had any issues. It's really just a box with valve stem attached.

TPMS light doesn't have any impact on anything on the car, it's just letting you know something is up with your TPMS system (low pressure, missing/faulty sensor, etc). If you have a second set of wheels you can easily get another set of TPMS for them and its very easy to program it in. There's a thread on here about that.
I ordered a new set of TPMS Fromm rock auto, then ordered the ATEQ Quickset for programming them in (takes minutes to program the device and takes seconds to program the car using the device). That way i can easily switch between my summer and winter sets.
