Advice to buy or not a fx 35

Hi FX community. I planning to buy a infiniti FX 35 from 2005 to 2007. I never test drive it or never sit on it but I like the way she looks. looks sick expecialtly the sport edition with 20" on it. I'm doing my research but I saw lot of people complaint about transmission problem and starting up problem, dash board melt, ect. but I'm not change my mine yet about get into one. I'm posting because I need some advice from you guys. it is a good idea get into it or not ? please help, I still like it.

I don't know if I'd be a great example or not. I just purchased my 05 FX35 in January. I've had many Mustangs and Cobra's in the past which led me to making sure I stuck with a rear wheel drive sporty car. I went to a G35 Coupe and then a sedan when the baby was born. FANTASTIC cars. The 3.5L engine is strong and the handling on the cars rivaled my Cobra which had many race suspension upgrades. I was amazed. When we became pregnant again, I knew I would have to get something bigger.

I looked for the FX without driving it. It fit the bill, rear wheel drive and sporty (almost bought a Murano because of a little more room but SO glad I didnt). I flew down to SoCal to look at a private owner's. Drove it home the same day.

I have not experienced the engine start problems or trans problems. However, I do notice the trans not always being in a gear that I would prefer it to be in. Maybe it's because all the car's I've had lately have been sticks.
My dash is slightly bubbling, but Infiniti has an extended warranty until 2013 or 80K miles I believe (someone can correct me if I am wrong). During my next oil change, I am going to talk with the dealer about it.

Well, hope this helps.

Obviously, most people here are going to tell you they are great. They are! If you can, buy a 2006 or newer.

+1. If I could have afford a couple of grand more, I would have gone with 06+. I didn't realize how many differences there were.

Def try to get an 06 or newer. The exhaust is one of the best stock exhaust out there. Handles well, its actually not that big though. If you need to fit a family with small children in car seats, it will be very tight. But other than that, I have had zero issues. About to hit 55k miles in my 06. Car runs like a champ. And if you are not always tring to race at every stop light, you can actually get decent gas milage. I am averaging about 19.2mpg.

Ive personally owned my 07 for two years now and some change I have 122k now on the dash ( I bought the FX at 60k) and seriously no problems whatsoever it runs just as smooth and strong since I first bought it. I did have my dash replaced and my ODO kicked back a few miles due to the warranty everything was covered free of charge. The VQ engines run very strong just as long as you normally take care of it, routine oil change, fluids, etc. other then that, Im hoping to have my baby well over the 200k mark

Thanks guys a lot about each comment. I probably gonna get mine 06 or 07. I want to get the sport package because I want the 20" rims. I'm looking around to see what I found. Looking for good deal here in NJ. I want a very low mileage clean car fax, one ower vehicle. Enjoy your fx still I get mines. Looking forward to put my back on those leather seats.

I should clarify. The handling on the FX is great. I have 58K miles on mine and just installed the H&R lowering springs, new Shocks/struts, and a GTSpec rear brace (waiting for the strut tower brace to come in). That brought up the handling incrementally! But stock it was great!

If you find a creampuff with 18s, don't skip it. You can easily add the wheels down the road. In the used market, finding a low miles, clear car fax, one owner in the right color can be tough enough without worrying about the wheels. Good luck!

I have a 2003 with 70k on it and have had no issues at all with it and my dash board is perfect as well! Power and handling is awesome (with some mods of course) :top:

I don't know what the big deal is about getting 06 & up. YES I know it comes with a lot more standard features, dash board is better, and so on. I just bought a fully loaded 03 FX35 with 98K miles - 3 owners - bronze brown with beautiful black brick interior, Rear Cam, overhead DVD player, intellicruise control, 20" sport pack, side curtain air bags, sunroof, leather, remote keyless entry, air pressure monitor for tires, AC, Bluetooth, Bose Stereo, CD changer ..... I could go on ... Let's just say it has every possible option ... Price:: $12000. I am absolutely in love! It drives incredible. A little stiff. My 89 year old mom found it ok and I test drove with her for 45 minutes on all road conditions. All those who complain the ride is too stiff need to look elsewhere. Like at Lexus. Very pillow soft ride. Good luck if you ever need to try to avoid getting in an accident - The Infiniti handles so well it could possibly save your life by steering out of trouble. Lexus sways so much it feels as if it's going to roll over. My other car is a 98 Lexus GS400. I feel it drives very similar. Also have 2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid which gets 22MPG. It feels very tipsy by comparison. This FX easily replaces my other cars. Best of both worlds and 18.5MPG. I say GET IT. I love it so much I decided if I sell this my next car will be same thing, only newer. Also love M35. Maybe someday.

I got in 04 with 73k with a few mods and no problem over here the only thing i have right now is bad front wheel hub which I'm about to change soon but that common for my year

Welcome to IS, Fiebrie! Just like everyone else says, you should get a facelift model 2006+ for all the exterior and interior changes. You seem to like the sport, so stick with that choice in the beginning. If you get a non-sport, you will eventually spend money getting the 20"s and the sport tails. The sport will come with everything: tinted headlights, aluminum roof rails, sport pedals and sport taillights. FX35s are very easy to find now and the prices are all over the place, so finding the color combo and a low mileage one should be your next step.

As for the issues, the bubbling dash is random, but common. There is a warranty on it that will expire eventually, something along the lines of seven years from the year of your car, the dealer will know. The cold start problem seems to had been identified with a fix now from other members, being a bad AC amplifier. Not sure about this transmission problem you are talking about, those are rare to begin with. And the final advice? YES, buy an FX, you will love it and the mod bug will bite you if you hang around here enough! :top:

My first FX was a 2003 non sport, and my current one is a 2006 sport. Pretty much the same car, but the 2006 is MUCH more aesthetically pleasing. I would say 100% find an '06-'08, unless you find an '03-'05 has the right amount of mileage and care and it doesn't bother you that there is a more updated version out there. Both great options.

I have a 2006 dg/black sport package RWD. It has 116k miles on it. I bought it with 92k two years ago for a pretty good price. It has never been to the shop with any issue; all I NEEDED to do was oil changes but I installed a Stillen CAI, Endless Ultimate rotors, Greenstuff pads, SS brake lines, HKS exhaust, spacers, new suspension with Eibach springs, and painted the lower moldings. It isn't a sportscar by any stretch of the imagination and fuel consumption is AWFUL for a 6 cylinder but oh well, I would do it again. Though I really want a sportscar again these days....
