Accessories questions for LMS CAI installation on my FX35?

Hi Guys:

I was lucky enough to get the LMS CAI pipe from Steven @ LMS.

However, he only had the pipe but no other accessories. So I ordered the Stillen high-flow intake kit (the one with airbox) and a K&N RX4730 filter. (Extra Stillen Filter with velocity ring and clamp brand-new if anyone interested). I'm going with the LMS CAI with Stillen airbox setup.

However, I wonder prior to my installation for the intake, what accessories do I need to complete the installation?

Will I need coupler to connect the throttle body to the LMS pipe? If I will, what will the size be?

Any necessary accessories if anyone can recommend?

Sorry for the newbie questions :shy:. All suggestions are much appreciated. :.smile:

I forget the sizing, but yes you need some Samco (or similar) hoses and hose clamps. If nobody chimes in with the sizing I'll snoop around for the specifics... or you can search yourself, as this site is where I'd search for it anyways.

Thanks Frankiago, I will start search on this site and see what I will get. Appreciate for the tips. :.smile:

I think the hump hose should do the trick (still not too sure if that is the right type of hose or not??? Or possibly a silicon coupler but what size?). However, I am still not sure about the dimension.

Any suggestion or info? I really don't know what kind of hose (hump or bended hump hose) to get and the size? If anyone can provide link or specific dimension, it will be great. Much appreciated. :.smile:

I thought that lms intake came with the couplers? I was just checking them out because I too wanted to get LMS pipe with stillen air box. I was even wondering how long their short ram was. In the picture it looks kinda long and thought maybe I could get the short ram and if it reaches out to the stock box, modifing the box to house the LMS.

Let me know how it works out.

The short ram should be similar length to the z-tube from stillen and other brand, so the OEM coupler should be fine. Since LMS only has the pipe left, therefore, you will have to purchase your own coupler. I called Steven @ LMS, he said 3" straight coupler will do the trick to connect the intake from the TB. I am also doing the LMS to the Stillen box. Mine is the CAI version instead of the SRI, so it goes directly from the TB to the box.

In addition, the Stillen filter will not work if you are going with the CAI instead of the SRI. The velocity rim is just too small for the pipe. People suggest K&N RX4730 filter for the CAI.

Getting mine installed next week. Still waiting for the coupler to arrive.

I've got the LMS Z-tube with the Stillen airbox and didn't have to buy anything else. I printed of the how to from the org and it was fairly simple. No extra tubes, clamps, or pipes required. The hardest part was mounting the existing MAF section to the airbox. The holes don't line up that easily. the one thing that I would, and should, change is the 3" pipe clamps. The one from LMS is nice but it makes the Nissan ones look a little dowdy.

I was originally going with the LMS Z-tube. But I think they only have the CAI pipe now. So the choice was limited.

Just can't wait for my coupler to arrive.

By the way, did you buy the LED DTRL kit online or is there a place selling the kit for the FX?

The LED dtrl's were bought quite awhile ago from a group buy that Rookie organized. It was just a bulb swap but I found that one side burned out within about six months. I switched back to the regular bulbs and just haven't changed my sig. Krayzie got them at the same time (he lives quite close) but I'm not sure if his are still good.

It's too bad about the Z-tube. The fit was just right with the Stillen.

Thx for the info. I think I will keep my stock DTRL for now. Going to get my new struct and H&R spring next (Probably going to order a custom headlight from turbocad before modding the DTRL) once I have find a new job. Power engineering jobs are very limited in Vancouver. :tears:

As long as it is LMS pipe, it's all good to me. Looks shiny. :.smile:

But it is really nice to see some FX lovers from Vancouver on :iS:. :.smile:

Oh, I do love my FX. I just don't have much time to mess around with it. Those lights from Turbo look incredible.

Where did you get your 3" couplers and filter from?

I was also wondering if that K&N RX4730 would fit into the stock air box?
I could alter the stock airbox a bit if it's close.

by the way, do you have any pictures of your install?

I was just looking again at their site...
this one is listed as short ram intake but in the picture it looks longer than the z-tube

I forgot the exact dimension of the K&K filter. You can probably find that specs on the K&N website and measure your stock airbox to see if it fits.

What I got from LMS is the CAI version. It's longer which directly goes from the Throttle body to the airbox.

The one you are looking at is the one I got. There is also a Z-tube version which is shorter. With the Z-tube, you are simply replacing the stock tube with the LMS one. So to go with that, you can just use the stock coupler for both ends. If you go with this, you will probably need to go with the Stillen Kit or simply use the stock filter. You can also use JWT pop charger. Here is the link for the adapter which you can use to save some money.

intake? - InfinitiScene.com

All the LMS pipe is 3" in diameter

If you want to go with the CAI version, you will need silicon couple to connect the pipe to the throttle body, becoz the CAI version has a bend at the end point to the throttle body. The silicon coupler (reducer) size is 3" to 3.25" which has 3" on one side and 3.25" on the other side. Throttle body is slightly bigger than 3", so that will make your life easier when install. Of course you will need 3" clamps to secure it.

Picture of LMS CAI with Stillen Box can be found here.

But first of all, you should call Steven at LMS to see if they have anything left. I got my CAI pipe from him for $125 USD (pipe only - nothing else)

I e-mailed steve and the price he gave me was $150 just for the pipe, I should just call I guess and see if i can't talk him down to $125. I found the k&n filter for 56.95 shipped and thats the lowest I found.

Heh, just got off the phone with Steve and he was nice enough to sell me the polished cai for $125 + $25 for shipping. Little much for shipping but i'm still happy!

So I finally received my LMS today (steve forgot to send it last week).
I installed it without the stock box so it's open for now (w/ K&N). I turned it on and it hesitated a little and thought it was wierd. Then I noticed I forgot to plug in the air flow sensor wire harness, duh! So I turned the car off, then plugged the wire harness back in started it up again and started up fine this time. But now it's showing the "service engine soon" light. I'm guessing it's because I turned it on the first time without the MAF sensor wire harness being plugged in. How do I clear this "service engine soon" light?

right on dave, thank you!
I actually got it on the first try.
Drove it around the neighborhood and definatly feel a difference. I don't think it was the intake that made the difference. I think it was the ecu reset, I never did it when I installed the mrev2 & 5/16" spacer. I've only driven it twice since i did that and it was a 30 min. drive each time.
Whoohoo! now I gotta save for audio, turbocads supercharger would be nice but i'm sure that will sell before I can save that much.
