Acceptable miles on new car pick up

So buying a new FX37, they drove it from Connecticut to PA. Never got a call letting me know this. Car has 213 miles on it. Signed some paperwork on the car last week. Should I accept the car from the dealer with that many miles?

Comments welcome.

Am I crazy for thinking this is too many miles.

If you knew they were getting it from another Dealer then you should have specified that you wanted it shipped. I have done this before with a new car when it was from a long distance away.
In reality I'm sure your FX will be perfectly fine.

I get to look at it tomorrow, I bet it is but I'm more mad about them not getting my approval, when we were up front with them about the miles.

It's got a break in period anyway, they just saved you some time before you can floor it. :)

I guess that's why there is a warranty. I've been a long time subaru person and never gotten a car with less than 15 miles even when they found it from out of state. They flat bedded the cars for us at no charge and no questions asked. Those, cars, were, half the value of this fx. Said thing is we love the sales man but the executive manager is a d-bag.

I just got my audi q5 about 4 weeks ago
And mine had 3 miles on the Odo

But I guess under 300 can be acceptable ?

2 miles on mine.
& the guy that brought it over from another lot was not driving it gently.
The car should be fine, but I wouldnt be too happy. Dealers often lie. How does one even know if it was a demo?
I would request another one, but that's just me. New car should have no more that a few miles on it.

i think acceptable miles for new car should be under 100KM (at least in my country). 213 miles is too much for the new car, unless you got good price .......

I got mine with 23 miles on it. You should expect anything under 100 given the test rides. 200 I would think about it and really inspect the front for any chips on the paint. Once you take it out of the dealer, it is all you. My dealership offers a 72 hour / 300 mile cool off period - meaning that if you buy it you have that much time to return it. But like you said, those 200 miles were transportation. Make sure they stipulate those 213 miles as your starting point for the warranty.

213 miles wtf, i would pass you never know wth they did to that car.. It might of been misused

Indeed... 14 miles on the FX and around 10 miles on another new car just picked up a few months ago. I would pressure the dealer to throw in some freebies to make up for the 'high' mlieage.

This could go either way. It will be a deal breaker for some and others couldn't care less. Either way, I doubt the car was trashed beyond hope, so it's a matter of how much you are bothered by the fact that someone else drove your car for 200+ miles before you.

Whichever way you decide to go, it is your choice to make and there are no wrong decisions. Enjoy the car as is, or try to get some compensation from the dealer.

Let us know how it turns out!

Ask for a price adjustment. Get them to throw in wheel locks, all season rubber mats, cargo organizer, tonneau cover...

I'd throw a fit enough for them to be threatened you'd pull out of the sale.

I guess the bottom line is pass the message across that you are ready to walk out of the deal for bad faith.

You have good reason to be peeved. But, think of it this way: (first figure the actual distance between these two locations in question) If the trip was 210 miles, and the car departed the home dealership with 3 miles on the clock, it is safe to assume the car has only had 1 driver. And that's only 1 chance of a possible A-hole driver. If you bought a car with 40 miles, you wouldn't have a suspicion and there is a possibility of 5+ possible A-hole drivers on test drives (assuming ~<7 miles per test drive). Being a luxury brand, we can assume fewer A-hole drivers would find themselves behind the wheel, but it certainly is sporty enough to beg for a hammering.
I think I'd rather buy a new car with 200 highway miles than 40 test drive miles.
Depending on where you are in the process, you could have a nice bargaining tool to your advantage. Raise a stink and demand retribution. Ask for an oil change (probably should watch them do it). Depending on how nice they are and how bad they feel, they could through in a service package, extended warranty, or accessories like said above. Probably a good time to check out the accessory catalog.

You paid for a new car price. 213 miles is NOT a new car.

A new car is define by law as never having a registered owner. So it really is a new car. Given the situation I would be mad they didn't tell me up front.

I know many dealers require the car to have a 10 mile test drive to ensure the doesn't have abnormally rattles and road noise.

So they are taking some more money off the car and tinting the remaining windows. Overall they sweetin the deal and I inspected the car today it's flawless. Pick it up officially on Friday. Appreciate all the feedback. Def will post pics when I get her.
