At the advice of a few others I put 295/40/21's on my QX and I couldn't be happier. Changed the ride, handling and noise issue with the factory Bridgestone Duellers. These Continental Extreme Contact DSW 06 tires are going on my Mustang GT too when the Michelin Pilot SS's wear out. Do your self a favor if you have 21"x9.5" rims, GET these.

Can you share a pic of the rear?
The 3 pics I posted are the rear of car ans the one is a side profile from rear looking forward down the side of the vehicle. The full side profile shows how nicely they fill out the fender well width. They 11.6 width I believe and the 265's are 10.4 I believe, nearly 1.25" bigger and you can tell in the ride and handling but mostly the reduced noise. These tires are amazing immediately noticeable. I love my limited edition 21"x 9.5" rims and I wouldn't think of changing them for some goofy aftermarket junk. The factory 20 and 21" wheels from infinity are all elegant yet performance looking in my opinion. Hopes this helps you

How do these compare to the factory 265/40/21 Dunlops?

The factory tires are Bridgestones on mine and are per Infiniti from what I can see on many cars of theirs. Bridgestones are good tire, not cheap but they were noisy and rough in many people's opinions. There's no comparison! These tires in the 295's are like moving from a cramped apt to a large spacious house, wonderful in every way. Never thought I'd appreciate a tire so much and the fit on the upsize is perfect. I wouldn't want you to do it and be unhappy. I feel 100% sure you'd feel the same thing. No rub, scrub perfect fit on a non-modified car. I don't see height as an issue if you have lowered yours a little either. These fit perfectly in the fender well but just fill it out like the tires needed.

@JeffAZ, thanks for going above and beyond w/ the pics and review.
Will say I'm a little disappointed w/ how wide the tire looks; maybe it is better in person, but still looks a little narrow in the pics. Could also be your mud flaps. I took mine off as soon as I got home from the dealer.
Hate to keep asking, maybe you could post a pic of the whole rear from straight back, then could see both tires in comparison to the body profile.
Thanks again.

Hey guy, you are right its the mud flap from the rear that gives the impression. I'm not in love with mud flaps but I like the protection to the body they offer. I think I can get the rear aero effect kit from Infiniti to replace them and that will make the back and tires look incredible! I'll take a few better pictures later and send them. The 295's are just about 1.25" wider than the 265's and it is noticeable to my friends immediately. Nothing but compliments in hoe the fill the wheels and the fender well. The mud flaps are making it look distorted. Thks -Jeff

Jeff, thank you for the detailed review. I appreciate the pics and your FX looks great with the new tires.
My car in Canada came with the Dunlops. Another friend of mine replaced his Dunlops with the Bridgestone after they wore out and it was horrible, so I do share your feeling with respect to the lack of quality of the Bridgestone.
Hopefully someone who has had my tires and replacing them with your tires would be able to do a comparison.
Njoy the new rubber!

Hey buddy, I have been so busy for sometime I didn't reply to you to see if anyone has responded with your tires to the ones I out on. I just ordered the rear wheel well aero kit pieces and when get them and have them painted to match my Hagane Blue and install them I'll post another pic. If you have seen any of these QX70's with them and the bigger tires it just looks incredible! I can't wait, I'll post a few pics soon

Now that you've been driving on these for a little bit, can you provide some feedback?
My main concern is that since the tire is outside of its recommended width range, wondering if:

1. It feels stable on long sweepers or a curvy on/off ramp taken at higher speeds
2. It feels ok in rapid transitions, like a traffic circle or emergency swerve to avoid something. Again, at a moderate or higher than 'safe' speed
3. Feels stable at high, highway speeds i.e. 90+ MPH

Hey there. I looked back and I never reposted a better pic of the rear as you had ask me to. I did try to take a better pic of the rear but in the pics the mud flap def gives the impression the tires aren't wide enough. In photos it just overpowers the pic unfortunately. Good news is I can only tell you that they really do fill out the fenders much better than the 265's and in person from the back you can tell they are wider.

As for the stability and handling questions:
1. No concern on long curvy off ramps. Took one the other day @ a higher speed on purpose and it handles like a race car and the tires are A+
2. Response or rapid transition is again, exceptional.
3. High speed stability, I do drive a little faster at times and this vehicle is just amazing on its own. I think these tires make it feel more stable. They should have come on the car from the factory! the are in no way oversized or bulging. no rubbing on the front inner wheel well, they sit under the edge of the fender, they are really what the vehicle should have had. At the tire store they recommend this size as a safe high speed alternative to the factory original. The guy I dealt with said he has seen this on the bigger wheels on an FX or QX and everyone has been thrilled with them. He showed me their reviews and their opinion that this is a safe replacement optional size.

I wanted to share this detail with you because if you have the 21" wheels you will be VERY VERY HAPPY you went with these 295's. These Continentals are amazing and they ride quieter and better. Good luck my friend

Hey, thanks 4 the quick reply. Highly appreciate the feedback! I have a '16 w/ the S package, so I have the black, 6-spoke 21's. With 265's, this thing tramlines like a mother!!! I mean, it just follows every little undulation in the road. If I take my eyes off the road for just a bit, I'm wandering all over the place. I think this car is so tightly tuned, the 265's make it a nervous, high-strung wreck. This car has actually been pretty disappointing to me as I'll probably unload it after all this blows over. But in the 1% chance that I do keep it, I will definitely be switching to 295's now. Thanks again for all your input.

You bet! Sorry it has been so rotten but I had the same thing with my Mustang GT and I went to wider wheels and tires and it changed it. The tramline thing is a bitch! I do not feel anything like that since I switched the tires and I recall that on the 265's. I sure understand your frustration buddy, I hope whatever you do works well for you. Best wishes

Was there any rubbing on the side of the tire anywhere?

Great info on this size! Ive been wanting this size for awhile with those contis. But been worried sbout them being too wide for turns/handling. Thanks

Jeff,

I know it's been a while since you posted this message.

I saw it at the time but now I have more interest as I have moved up from a FX35 to a 50s. Going to have need for tires soon. Are you still pleased with your decision to change from the stock 265x45's to the 295x40's? If so, I think I will move ahead with the switch in size after confirming that no changes were made in the tire clearance tolerances in the wheel well from 2010 to the later year models.

I'm another guy that switched to the same Conti 295/40/21s on the stock wheels. Have no complaints, so much quieter than the Dunlops that came on it, a little softer, too. Thinking of trying the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4 in this size next, but I'm concerned that they will not be as quiet, etc. Lateral grip is important for me, despite being in a mini SUV. I don't want to give up any quietness, but I'd gladly give up a little softness on the initial turn-in. This is honestly the first time I've been happy with a Continental tire.
