7 Speed Transmission Re-Flash

i do keep my gas receipts but i didn't note down my km at each fillup. I'm not a math person at all and just prefer to go by what the computer say lol. I will keep a record next time. Is there anyway to calculate it with out full fillups? i almost never fill my fx up full given the ridiculous gas price. my math lameness fails me lol

No you can't figure it out without filling it up. You are better to keep it filled up, it prevents condensation build up in the tank. It is just as easy to keep the top half filled as it is the bottom half.

Here are a couple of calculators that make the calculations real easy. You just plug in your figures.

just went in for my service, they did the transmission reflash/upgrade no problem, i was also inform that the engine computer was also upgraded? anyways the drive home was great, i had the shifter on D mode and LOOK MA NO LAG!!!!

Check out my thread concerning my experience with the 7spd. The fix that finally worked was when they reflashed the engine computer.

I think both reflashes need to be done to solve the problem.

Anyone have info on the computer reflash? I've only heard of the trans computer reflash. What are the symptoms that justifies the reflash. Tustin is really picky and I'm going to need some symptoms that I can read off.

I can ask my service rep if there is something specific you should ask for. I just kept pushing them to correct the problem and stated the shifts were not smooth and that it was still hunting for gears.

Is there a manufacture date prior to which you should do a reflash...or is this something to do regardless?

Unless you got the 2010 I believe.... Anyone knows if there's a new flash or its still the same flash we've been talking about since page 1?

I'm pretty sure I posted a date in the threads earlier pages that the flash started after.... not sure where. My 09 came with it already.

ok so I was kinda considering trading my 04 FX for a 2nd Generation so read through forums on here and a couple other sites. I see many comments such as "much much better" and "10 times better" but none that say fixed or problem solved. Is this tranny just trash?? I have seen several comments that they feel like it is NOT fixed after the flash and they end up getting rid of the vehicle. Some even say it acts different on some days than others along with not being able to produce the issue in front of the dealer which worries me most for when I go test drive.

My tranny never 'corrected', even after I had the reflash done. It looks like there is a second reflash, but this one pertains to the engine computer. Is this correct? Does anyone have the maintenance number on this reflash?

I'll take a look on my last invoice if there is a maint. number. If not, I'll call my dealer and get the info. I've driven a 2010 FX35 and the tranny response a lot better than mine. I haven't seen any members on here comment on their 2010 models.

I didn't know there was another reflash. I'd like this info as well.

I've heard that too. No 10's are complaining. Interesting.

I just had my ECU reflashed. I asked about a second transmission controller reflash. When they checked, they said there was only the one.

My car feels ok. After the ECU reflash my car felt a little sluggish. Like Nissan went in and purposely slowed everything down to avoid hash shifting.

I pulled the battery and drove it more agressively and ever since then the car has felt fine.

My issue with the transmission was with the fact it was always so eager to go into the upper gears. There were times I was driving about 30 and the car was in 7th at 1000 rpm. Another issue was that on occassion, while rolling along at 15-25 mph in traffic, when getting back on the gas the whole drive line would shock as if I got tapped from the back. This happens less than 1/10th of 1%. But it is disconcerting when it happens.

The upper gears issue probably comes from wanting to squeeze as much mpg as possible. As is my other issue. So, all in all, they are not deal breakers for me.

Anyone notice funny shifting when going up hills?

Kinda hard to explain but i'll give it a shot:
Coming up to a incline it starts off sluggish at low rpms and feels hesitant to downshift, this happens while i keep my foot at a constant pressure on the pedal (maybe around 1/4 throttle... or 3/10ths).

When i increase the pressure on the pedal (1/2 throttle) nothing happens until i put about 3/4 throttle..or 8/10ths then the engine downshifts and the rpms shoot to 5-6k and will start hauling ass, but if i let off the pedal to 1/4th or even completely off, the car holds the same low gear instead of upshifting.

I'm not trying to haul ass up hills, I just want to keep it a constant 5mph range around the speed limit, but it seems like the engine is getting overworked, tranny too, just to do something as simple as that.

The worst is when I drive on hills that have varying degrees of incline, my car sounds retarded jumping from rpm to rpm, the only way I've been able to remedy this is by shifting manually to a higher gear (on paddle shifters 09 FTW!! ...j/k).

BTW: I've noticed this before and after the reflash.

Honestly the reflash only made my car shift softer. I kind of regret doing it now. Infiniti has been known to dial back performance after the fact to extend the life of their transmissions or to stop the everyday person from complaining about fast shifts not feeling comfortable. (Q45 first gen.)

From a dead stop, my car does not feel as fast as it once did.

rijc99 - I also felt the dialing back performance effect of the reflash but I wasn't sure if it was just in my head. I was afraid that was going to happen when I took my car in, but the jerkiness of the shifting started to get annoying in traffic.

Maybe at one of the future meets people can compare flashed and non-flashed acceleration times. I'm hoping this can be remedied again when some tuners start offering some ECU upgrades.

this I do notice as well on my 09
