7 Speed Trans in 09 gets bad reviews everywhere it seems

Interesting. I'm still calling my dealer tomorrow to see if they have at least heard about a trans reflash coming ...

Gear hunting / Trans: I first have to point out that where they are referencing 'move the shift selector over to the right', this is incorrect. In the 2009 FX, you can only move the gear shift to the LEFT. This will change the dash indicator to DS mode.

I have only engaged the Sport mode (DS) on the highway. Are they suggesting we try this on all drive modes? i.e. City as well as Hwy?

Left, Right..... Whatever. Hahahahaha

They say they like using it in all driving situations. I will have to try when I get mine. I didn't know you could leave it and not actually shift in that mode. That was news to me. However if you do shift at all in that mode it stay manual and you have to click out and back in if you want DS manual again.

Well, I've never driven a 1st gen FX so I can only offer my opinion of the 09. I like it. I don't experience the hunting reported by other folks. I use DS and manual mode often and frequently downshift manually when passing in auto mode. I could get better mileage if I drove more conservatively but I didn't get this car based on fuel economy.

Totally agree! MPG isn't going to be great if you drive the car the way it was designed to be driven. Imho

It is odd you don't feel the gear missing and delays that are being reported everywhere. Even on review sites people keep bringing it up. It seems Infiniti is aware of the issue, so it should be getting fixed.

Honestly, you might be over thinking this just a bit. Just get the car and enjoy it ! You won't even remember your '07 after the first day of driving.

Don't get me wrong. I love the FX but it would be nice to have more responsive tranny. I thought it was just me but then I saw the same comments on edmunds, thats when I took it to the dealer to get it checked

Agreed. My 07 trans is very responsive. I'm sure this will get fixed soon. Especially since the 50s is having the same issue. That is what will make them pay attention. Its a pricey car.

Oh ya, you haven't asked me about 7 spd trans. It's 'ok', def not the same feel as the previous edition. For city driving, it does tend to search a bit but I am used to this now. What I prefer about the new trans is the Sport mode during highway driving. A lot of fun! Very responsive, tight, etc.

My impressions as well. Also got to appreciate the short initial gearing, for strong low-speed acceleration. The fact of the matter is that all manufacturers are having trouble getting 6+ speed transmissions to behave well. They keep refining the programs. Any reflashes available for the seven-speed yet?

no reflashes but a good after market grounding kit will make the shifts faster and smoother. It did on my 09 G37s and I am making one now for my 09 FX50S

Let us know if the gronding kit does help the FX.

My experience with the FX35 7 speed tranny. I just came back from a 3,500 miles trip with most of the driving on 2 lane state highways. The car was very comfortable while at cruising speed. I set the cruise control at a little over 80 and the ride was very smooth.

A few time I had to disengage cruise and slow down because of slower moving trucks. Trying to pass was an adventure. Many time I stepped on the gas paddle to pass the engine rev for a long second before the transmission got into lower gear and the car surge forward. Never felt comfortable and confident enough. A few time I had to return to behind the truck because I was not sure if I would make to pass.

I had the dealer looked at the issue before and was told nothing wrong with it. I am going to make another appointment and raise the issue again. I really don't want to have to use the manual mode all the time.

That is what I was hearing before and don't like the sound of this at all!

Yes I have the same problem with trying to pass a slower vehicle. I would step on the gas peddle, and guess what.... acceleration is minimal. I use to own the 1st Generation FX, I really miss the acceleration of the older model. The new one can SUCK IT, it really feels more like a family car compared to the 1st GEN FX. Oh wells, can't do anything now, I can only hope that they fix the problem.

This is exactly why I am held off on picking up my car. Reports like this and it is why I started the thread up. I can't seem to get any dealer to let me drive the car for more than 15 minutes. I need some real time with it.

Its seems DS mode solves this, but that really isn't a fix. We need a reflash.

DS mode does not fully cure this problem. It only changes faster than D mode.

The RPM will climb so high all of a sudden in D mode and around 1sec later the gear engage and you rocket.

In DS mode, it shorten the waiting time to around half a sec ? it is faster, but still has the same problem, the car will sound so loud and not moving for awhile and accelerate after it found the right gear.

it is kind of annoying because my 95 ford explorer does't do that.

I test drove again yesterday and 100% felt this issue. I tried it over and over. Not good at all.

Honestly has me thinking of looking elsewhere for my new car.

I'm just hoping for a reflash at this point. I wonder if it's the same with the FX50 and G37 that use the same tranny.
