65mm exhaust diameter? FX 45

Hi everyone, I have been a long time observer, and have found this site very interesting. I was reading a couple of guys talking about the Invidia dual system for their FX. I did not see anyone having problems with it. However, mine came in Friday, and after pulling my old system off, which went very easily, I was surprised to find out when attaching the first pipe that the studs did not line up with the invidia flange. The FX pipes coming from the cat converters flanges are slightly wider hole spacing, and bigger flanges. Then I pulled out my micrometer, and was surprised again to find out that the FX pipes are 65mm diameter, the Invidia pipes are 60mm! Even though the box says FX45. Why would I want to put smaller diameter pipes on my car, (if the flange matched), would that not increase back pressure? I don't know if my FX is unusual for some reason, or if there is an adapter flange, not sure if I want smaller pipes anyway, I figured they would be the same if anything. When I noticed the box had FX35/45 on it I was concerned, why would the exhaust be the same for both cars with different sized engines? Anyone else run into this? Also was wondering, what is the black disk shaped object connected to the top of the OEM muffler, it looks like hockey puck material, was not connected to anything except the muffler.

Thanks everyone
I will keep enjoying the info out there

True dual = more flow, so invidia purposely chose 60mm.

Hks is 65mm and nismo is 76mm.

For NA 60 mm on true dual is a good setup.

Are you talking about the tubes on the y-pipe?

The reason the FX35 and FX45 have the same diameter tubes is to allow Infiniti to use the same parts for both vehicles.

The hockey puck sounds like either a resonance suppressor or a bushing to prevent the muffler from rattling against the chassis.

I think I remember for the years 06 and up for the 45's you had to extend out some parts of the invidia to make it fit. You have an 05 so I thought it would bolt right on...any one else remember this or are you just worried about the piping??

Thanks Chedman, you are right I wasn't thinking about the fact that dual would probably compensate for the slightly narrower tube, however I still have the bolts not matching off the car to the first pipe. I guess I could drill them out to make them work, that would be plan B I guess.

No that is now resting in the bottom of a dumpster, the dual system I bought is what I was referring to. I think it might be resonance suppressor, I don't even know what that does, something to do with the pipe noise I guess.
