55w HID for fog lights

Don't do it. Ge the 35W kit and be done. You will melt the housing with such a hot bulb.

I have 55w HID fogs. I've ran them for hours at a time and I have never had a problem with them. Ever.

Just curious as to why people keep saying not to get the 55w fogs. I have yet to find a single person who has had any problem with them, much less, melted their housings.

There are people who have done damage to headlight housings with 55W bulbs, and shitty LED's. So while it might not have happened to fog light housings, it is a risk you are running.

35W kits are already so bright, 55W for an extra little bit of light and extra risk just doesn't seem worth it.

And yes, various Toyota and Audi/VW forums have plenty of posts about damaged fog light housings due to 55W HID's.

Thanks meme.

Shane, I don't believe that you'll have any problem on the GEN2 body style. Like I mentioned earlier, I've had mine running for extended periods (nearly 8 hours in a single stretch) and I've never had a problem.

HID's are not like regular bulbs, they only get really hot when they first turn on and they are warming up, which only lasts about a minute or so. Unlike regular bulbs which constantly burn hot, so you should be fine. LED bulbs definitely shouldn't be getting hot enough to melt any housings. I use a lot of LED's especially on my motorcycle and I've NEVER seen an LED that gets hot enough to melt a housing, they must have been using some really crappy LED's and the melting must have been a result of the wires heating up because the LED were crappy.
