I backed up into a vent in a garage (that i didn't realize was so low). It smashed my 3rd top brake light and the plastic surrounding it.

I want to see if i can avoid the dealer charging me $333 (est) to replace it. The Infiniti parts guy said it would be the entire assembly and not just the light and plastic around it $278.05 + $55 labor.
If i can buy the part online i'm going to see if i can have my regular mechanic do it.

Q:
Where can i buy the replacement part?
What is the exact part name so i know i got the right part.

Thanks guys!

look for local wreck/junk yards for nissan infinit. You will be amazed what you find and always negotiate the price

The third brake light comes out so easy. I think its three nuts and pops right out. If you look under the the brake light you will see little covers that pop off to reveal the the nuts.

Sent from my Nexus 10 2

Its called the "High-Mounted Stop Lamp". There are three caps on the inside of the hatch that you would pop out to get to the three nuts. I think they're 8mm. Used a magnetized socket so you don't drop them on the way out/in. I drop one of the nuts and it wasn't fun to hunt that like thing down.

Defenatly

whe the hatch is open there will be some beauty plugs that cover the 3 nuts that need to be removed, unplug the light from the harness.reverse for install :smile (2):

I had an accident a while back that involved two bikes on the roof rack getting torn off and down the back of the car.... horribly dumb I know... but that same black plastic trim piece that holds the third brake light got all cracked up and needed to be replaced. The body shop told me that the plastic trim/spoiler piece is integrated into the rear hatch and that the entire rear door/hatch had to be replaced. So it got replaced.

I think the body shop summary said it was $1250 for the rear hatch. Insurance covered the repair so I didnt worry about it but I was shocked that it was such an expensive repair. I figured the plastic piece had to be removable from the metal door. Eh, it is what it is.

Good luck.

the door isn't metal. i believe its fiberglass

Oh... either way I was surprised that it was all integrated together.

If they were separate pieces the repair would be a whole lot cheaper and much less intensive, rather than having to strip trim and emblems and rehang the entire rear hatch.

Some of the earlier posts made it sound like you could order just the spoiler trim piece, but I had two different body shops quote the entire rear door.
