35'ers, ever see a 45 for sale....

...

Hey, PG County, Philmark Motors (which i know was a reputable pre owned dealership, pre economic meltdown) has what looks like to be a 2006 fx 45, Obsidian black, with a brick interior for sale.

As i was leaving Andrews Federal Credit Union, i hit a u turn to go look at it and from what i saw, she was really clean.

I suppose, like the majority of you'll, i've decided that if i ever were to upgrade, it'd be for the 2nd generation body style fx, possibly the fx 50s.

Although the newer model styling hasn't quite grown on me just yet, the brutish 45 engine growl is really sexy. like omgggggg, lol.

My question is this. Is the 45 leaps and bounds over the 35 in performance?

I know that what i owe on my 35 would probably be more than the asking price of the 45, putting me upside down.

Im rambling, as usual, lol!

FX45 is much faster than the 35. Leaps and Bounds...no. But to get an FX35 to beat a 45, it will have to get FI, or a ton of engine work. Might as well get the 45 for as much as you'd be putting into a 35 to beat a 45. And with the money saved, you can lower it, have a set of nice wheels, bracing, and exhaust for less than a FI 35.

Plus the 45's come with rear sway bar already installed. RWD 35's are missing it, but can be added on later.

I don't know much about the 45s other than what I've read, but from just checking out your post, I wouldn't want to be terribly upside down on a car. I've been there before... Not a big deal if you plan on keeping it until it's paid off (or selling when you have some equity), but if you're like me and can't help but see new things that you want... I'd wait. Especially since the car in question is a more powerful version of the car that you currently own.

Just my .02

Thats true, no need to hop in a 45 since u already have a 35 i mean its really not worth going upside down w negative equity. I love my 45 and i believe its just the right power nothing against 35's i just love v8, ive alsi noticed that there aren't that many engines or trannys for sale, meaning that u do not see them on ebay often. Is that because there arent too many or less problem who knowes. Keep ur 35 bro

Thanks for the advice gentlemen.

I do indeed love the performance & engine on my 35. It's been bulletproof, in my first year of ownership.

The 2nd gens are ridiculousy priced, for whatever reason, even the pre owns are commanding 35k+.

I know that Infiniti introduced the EX line, for entry level ownership, at a fair price point, for those that couldn't see themselves in a Murano, lol, they just aren't masculine enough for my tastes. They almost devalued the brand like the porsche boxster.

Porsche improved on the boxster with the Cayman, although still not a Carrera.

I don't know if the boxster truly represented porsche accurately, as they go for almost nothing on craiglist, about 11K for a 1998.

Not to run this further off topic, but I strongly disagree with this statement. I think the boxster is the epitome of what Porsche represents... Lightweight, track designed, mid engined, non equipment loaded roadster. At the same time, the cheaper price made is more obtainable to the general public which was bad news for enthusiasts.

The Boxster got a bad wrap for a couple of reasons. First was because it was cheaper than the 911. BUT, 90% of the boxster is the same as the 911. This is inclusive of front fenders, doors, hoods, windows and shields, seats, dash, electronics, all resevoirs and tanks, ECU, most of the drive line and suspension, ect. The major difference between a 996 and a 986s can be summed up in a rear facing 3.2 liter engine mounted in the middle of the car VS. a front facing 3.4 liter engine in the rear of the car made of the same block. This allows the boxster to have a very small trunk and the 911 to have a very small rear seat.

Second reason it got a bad wrap was that it was the beginning of the Water-Cooled Porsches. Which old timers hated. Because the watercooled boxster was introduced 2 years before the watercooled 911, it was bashed by the old school porsche owners that would never admit that a watercooled engine would perform (and sound) like their beloved animal. This has been proven wayyyy innacurate with the new models.

All performance minded track guys would admit that the boxster was designed better than the 911 for performance but it was down-tuned to make sure it didn't beat the performance of it's flagship racer.

The 986 boxster is an amazing value and a freaking blast to drive because of the bad wrap it got and the fact that it was mainstream and cute (all roadsters are) enough to get in the hands of non-enthusiasts. If you are looking at them, I highly highly recommend it.

Dang bro, now i can't stop searching for youtube videos of the Cayman.

I don't know if they are truly daily drivers, as it seems that the suspension is unforgiving & harsh and fit only for an enthusiast.

Stupidly, i really had underestimated them but i'd gladly trade in my 35 for one, lol.

Im not a convertible guy, I would prefer the cayman for sure (it is essentially a 987 boxster coupe).

I Guess everyone has their tolerances for DDs, but the Porsche is pretty comfy in stock form. The problem is when you start enjoying the performance of the car and ask it for more- lower it, put intake on it, put exhaust on it, change out the seats for racing seats, put aggressive brake pads, and it becomes a toy that is miserable in traffic jams.

I started with a 986 boxster, then 996 911, then lotus elise, then another 996 911, and now a 911 turbo. In stock form the boxster was the most fun... in modified form the 911 turbo with 550 HP is pretty hard not to love.
