350z steering wheel on 2003 fx35

I'm on vacation so am not checking the IS as much. But to answer your question, yes it will fit just fine. It's a direct bolt on and replacement. Standard Nissan part. Just throw your airbag in to keep the Infiniti logo and you're done.

I tried the G35 wheel but did not work on it any further. I had some additional functions on like a phone/blue tooth so did not know if all functions would work or not. Like the G wheels very much........the airbag wouldn't fit off course. Good to know a Z would be an option.

The 06+ FX steering wheels comes with illuminated buttons. The illuminated buttons would have the function label on the button rather then on the top/bottom of the button on the aluminun piece. If the 350Z steering wheel is illuminated, you have to get an 06+ steering wheel clock spring to replace your 03 one. The 03 - 05 FX clock spring doesn't have the pin to power up the buttons. I have modded my 03 with an 07 steering wheel with illuminated buttons.

Here is the 07 steering wheel and 06+ cluster in my 03.

And you have to add your own power source to to power the buttons.

Wasn't that you needed the new clock spring for that you mentioned, for the extra power ? So you still need an additional power source outter then the clock spring right...??

Ohhh BTW for this dumb Dutchie with poor technical english......what the F... is a clock spring ?? *LOL*

The 06+ clock spring give you a pin in the connector to power the illuminated buttons. Since the 03-05 doesn't have the illuminated buttons, there is no pin in the connector or wire in the harness on 03-05 clock spring to give power to illuminates the button. Remember what we have to do to power the 06+ cluster in an 03-05? We added power source. Same here, but the 03-05 clock spring doesn't comes with the extra pin like on the back of the 06+ cluster.

Since the upper/top part of the clock spring spins with the steering wheel, you cannot just stick a wire up through the 03-05 clock spring into an 06+ steering wheel to illuminates the button. Plus the clock spring is closed/sealed unit, there just no way of poke a wire through it. The wire will get all tangled up as you turn the steering wheel anyway if you do. The internal of the clock spring is made such that it provides a way to connects power and button functions of the buttons from the stationary part and the spinning part of the clock spring.

To illuminates the buttons, I tap into the clock illumination wire to give power the buttons. Before I connects the power source to the pin on the stationary part of the clock spring connector, I install a voltage regulator so that I don't burnt the led in the buttons. The only down side to this mod is the button illumination is not dimmable with the stock dimmer dial.

The picture soonster refers to is the clock spring with the paddle shifters mounted.

Look at the first picture, the part on top of the picture is the clock spring.

la_fx35,

Thanks for the info, here is a pict of my new wheel which from your explanation seems to be illuminated. Do you have a part number for the clock spring I would need? Also, my buttons are slightly different than these in the sense that I don't have a "Pwr" button on my original wheel. I wonder if it will work? A side from all of this, i'm overall happy with condition and feel of this new wheel! Looks to be in awesome condition and all! Definitely a win/win for me!

Thanks again for all the info!!

Dan
