30,000 service - prices and recommendations?

Ok so below is the recommended 30k service, and then below that is my dealer recommendation. Please see all pictures below. Keep in mind I have the FX50 S.

So here is what I'm planning:
- Oil change
- new wipers (I need them and really like the stock ones cause they have a clear no branding look)
- 2 engine filters I guess replace
- grape in-cabin micro filter
- front left/right seat filters
(the above 3 filters I'm thinking of having them do it the first time just so I can see the cost and then afterwards decide if I'll do it myself is what i'm thinking, but I don't know I keep flip flopping on it)
- transfer case oil
- rear differential oil (no where does it say front differential so not sure if it is covered below when they say in the sheet rear differential service....not sure why they wouldn't do front if that is necessary to unless this is part of it?)

from their suggestion: I was going to tell them not to do the coolant (100k, but will do at 60k), not do trans fluid change (100k, but will do at 60k). But not sure why on their list rear differential and transfer case is not on it? Also they have listed under recommended AWD / 4x4 service for $310? What the heck is that? Could that be transfer case, but that seems way too much then. Their prices are actually cheaper than other Infiniti dealers around here.

I don't plan on doing anything with the tires because they are driving fine, balances, and all even wear so why mess with it and pay for nothing?

If I individualize, then maybe I won't get all those other things like parking brake adjustment. Do I really need that, never did it on any other car before?

And whats the deal with infiniti suggesting replacing radiator cap? Never ever did that on a car before.

Infiniti also recommends replacing engine drive belts but dealer doesn't have that either in their list? Not sure about this either...I never have replaced mine on previous cars before unless they started squeaking...almost seems like throwing away money.

then I wonder why they don't list cleaning sunroof drains on their list. They detail everything there....that's weird considering some of you guys have mentioned that. I wonder if dealerships normally don't do that.

Thanks guys for helping me decide what I should/shouldn't have scheduled. I trust you guys more than the dealership since dealerships in my experience recommend too much and just throw away money lots of times.

First I suggest you do the wipers, seat filters, engine filters, and cabin filter yourself. It's way too easy to do instead of throwing away money to the dealer for it. Unless your afraid to do it yourself, then I guess let the dealer do it. But like I said those things are easy to change.


Coolant can wait till 60K. The Nissan Long Life Blue Antifreeze that comes equipped in our cars are rated up to 10 years/100,000 miles. So 60K should be good.



Ofcoarse to a motor oil and filter change. Make sure they change the drain plug. My dealer always installs a new plug when changing the oil


For the transmission fluid I'd have them flush it right now before it starts to break down later on. But that's just my opinion.



Drive belts can wait till 60K miles too. Unless your experiencing any squeeling from the belts or they are severely worn, 60K miles is okay.



Radiator cap is recommended to be replaced because sometimes the seal around the cap can wear out I guess from high pressure or something? So It's just something for a better piece of mind. I didn't bother replacing mine. And again this is something you can do yourself. Only takes 10 seconds to change. Just don't remove the radiator cap after the engine has been running.



I think they just forgot to list it. The AWD/4x4 SUV's all have front and rear differential oil. Just mention it to them. I had mine changed. Only cost like $119 to do both the front and rear together.


I think what they mean by AWD service is changing the transfer case fluid and lubricating the propellar shaft.



All those other things like power steering flush, and brake fluid flush can wait till 60K miles. Totally not neccesary right now. I also recommending having the tires rotated. I stick to 7500 mile interval as recommended.

Thanks Aaron...ok I'm doing it myself....should I get the stock wipers, seat filters (I kind of want to just get everything changed out because I wasn't the original owner of the car), and engine filters from infiniti parts usa? And then where do I get the exact oem grape in cabin air filter or get that at infiniti parts usa as well?

What about the parking brake adjustment, since I'm not doing a package thing, should I specify for that specifically?

wow so transfer case change is $310!? Did you do that service?

One other question: I'm not going to be putting much miles on the car right now....and am considering just doing this when the weather warms up (only the transfer case and differential delay - others do right away). For some reason I'm thinking they'll do a better job when it's not 15 degrees out, or then they won't get salt in there maybe, or that it will drain better, etc. Extra 1 or 2k miles on it is not a big deal past 30k miles, but I'm just thinking spring would be better, your thoughts?
 
That's alot of cash for those services. A good mechanic, if you're not able to do this yourself should run half of that.
Drain & fill cases is not a bad idea at 30, but not necessary as was said already. I would do a drain & fill on the tranny for sure. Few quarts, probably more heat w/ the 50 turning it.
 
Yeah get them from Infiniti parts USA. The grape cabin filter is sold on eBay by the circle Infiniti dealer. In posted a link to it on my thread on how to change the cabin filter.


I don't know how they came up with $310 for an AWD service because my dealer only charged me $90 to do a drain and refill of transfer case fluid.


On our 7 speed trannies changing the transmission fluid is a little more difficult and time consuming since it's a sealed unit with no dipstick. I looked in the service manual and there are like 3 pages of instructions on how to do it. There are things you have to do like heating the fluid up to a certain temperature then using the Consult III to confirm it's at 40 degrees when draining, cutting some hose, and all of this other blah blah blah stuff i didnt understand lol. All I know is that my dealer kept my car most of the day to do it.

You could wait till it gets warmer to let them do it, but I don't think it's a big deal. You can have them do it anytime.

Great thanks...I'll start putting in my order this weekend from online. It's good to know what you guys pay because I'll write them down and when I go there be all surprised if it's a lot more.

You guys keep skipping over the parking brake adjustment question! lol Also, why do you highly recommend replacing the oil drain plug? Just curious because I have a feeling I'll ask them to do that and they might as why, for what, and maybe charge me more and maybe something outrageous for it.
 
on that list u mentioned, there's not a thing you cant do yourself...spend a weekend. save the cash. take it from me..i haven't been to the dealer in 2 years.

Parking brake adjustment I never done. But on my other cars I always adjusted the parking brake when I had the brake pads changed and rotors resurfaced.


And yeah I don't mean the drain plug, I meant the washer lol. Anytime you drain any fluids on the car such as the diff, transfer, and motor oil, it's recommended to change the washer on the drain and refill plugs. It's stated in the factory service manual.
