Hi All,

got word from my mechanic that my struts and sway bar links need replacement. I'm not sure what to do. Should I just replace the struts and not worry about the shocks in the rear, or do I need to replace them both? Fx has over 160,000 km. The only struts I can find are Monroe branded, can't seem to find the KYB ones - I'm in Canada and the choices are very limited unfortunately. I have also looked into coilovers- Megans perhaps.

If you guys can chime in as to what are my best options that would be great.

If you get coilovers, go with BC Racing... MUCH better than MEGAN's... But if you live in an area that salts a lot, the coilovers will take a pounding... Salt + Aluminum suspension parts, doesn't mix very well...

Thanks for the advise. I think I will stick to stock parts seeing the heavy winters we get up here. Not a lot of sites carry everything. Have to piece together parts from all different site. I was able to find one site fortunately - found a set of Monroe Struts for the front and a set of KYB shocks for the rear along with 4 sway bar links - totaled $947.77 CAD ($746.28 US) Do you think that's a good price?

For that price, I'd just go with coilovers :P

Doesn't look bad but doesn't look great either... Call these guys and tell them what you need and see what they quote you... I'm guessing even with the crappy exchange rate and shipping, it should be less than that...

What kind of sway bar links and where?

I think kyb was the co. that manufactured shocks/struts for the FX. I have kyb front & back with h&r drop sprangs. Likes'em good. Paid around $300 for shocks/struts & $260 for the h&r's. Don't need sway bar end links if you toss the sway bars.

I bought Moog links(?), something like that, a couple months before I decide to keep & mod the FX only to then toss them along with the sway bars. Never looked back.

Moog parts look like good quality. I bought some control arm bushings but didnt use them. Replaced my leaky steering rack which was causing problems.
I would also just go with C/Os if changing out.

I got the parts from Monkeywrench - Canadian site- free shipping! Total cost came around $950 CAD. 2 front Monroe struts (only brand I can find for front struts) and 2 rear kyb shocks // 2 front and 2 rear sway bar links (moog brand). After install, rides smooth - heard nothing but clunking sound before on both smooth and rough roads.

Only thing left is wheel alignment - wheel doesn't pull to any side, but just dips a little to the left.
