22 inch wheel options for 2nd gen FX vs 21 inch ride quality?

Sold my 04 FX and ended up with a 2010 FX. The car came with 20's and my 04 had some 22's Falken RT7M on it?
So far I like the ride quality and handling of the 20's. Whats the verdict on going 21 vs 22? I noticed 21 has only a couple of tire options at discount tire.
Is the ride quality and handling much diffrent between 21 vs 22?

The 22's that I had for my 04 was under a $1K for my wheels alone. Are there any reasonable priced 22's out there that look good?
I liked the style of the RT7M but wish they were in gunmetal and bit wider.
 
Look around and get ideas for the wheel size and style that interests you. Find something that you like ...then don't buy it.

Sit on it for a month and keep looking. I promise that what you like now has a high probability of not be what you like next month. Wheels are expensive.

I know that I have already given you this sage advice once already, but I'll say it again, if you're going to do it, do it right (the first time).

I did this with my 1st gen. then jumped on the Falkens since the price was good. Under 2K for 22 inch wheels and tires
They looked great! my only issue was as the tires wore it became hard to balance and the steering wheel shakes at various higher speeds
I think it was the garbage Yokohamas.
 
So how is the ride quality coming from the Stock Enkei 20's going to 22's ? I seem to be enjoying the ride but the handling could use a bit help

I've seen those wheels on eBay. I like the look of them, but the fact that they are like $800 for the set and in NYC, I'd be very wary of their quality.

When you say quality you mean finish ? I bought set of 22 (Falken RT-7M) from Discount Tire for $960 a set. They where perfectly fine. One thing I did notice is wheels where painted black and after 3 years the black painted had a few spots where the paint began to come off. When I say few I mean very few and you have really look for it. Never had any other issues with quality though.

Any other 22 inch recommendations under $1500? I was considering the TSW Forged Nurburgring but wish the gunmetal was glossy.
 
^He means overall quality in general. Those are like knock off wheels. Cheaply made in every aspect. From materials used to make the wheel to the finish. All crap

Yep got it just didn't want people to confuse price with quality because I felt the Falkens where cheap yes but not cheap quality. The ones from NY who knows
Do you guys know what width and offset I should be looking for ?
 
Falkens are pretty nice wheels, it's a known brand. Those wheels on eBay on the other hand I have never even heard of that company before.
 
So I've taking the advice and browsing the gallery. I've think I've gotten this down to Forgestar F14, Falken RT7-M and TSW Nurburging. My FX is Platinum Graphite Grey just debating on weather black or matte gunmetal would look better
You guys think I would notice a difference in comfort going 22 vs 21 ? Had the Falken RT-7M in 22 on first gen liked the appearance and price enough to reconsider them
But what stinks is that the width is only 8.5 (22 X8.5 5-114.30 Offset 35)
I might be crazy but I feel like the 2nd Gen with the stock 20 inch Enkei ride pretty good and I've noticed the steering wheel turns with ease. Is this because the steering was redesigned? Has anyone gone from 20 to 22 or 21 to 22's and regretted it ?

I went from stock 18's (winter rims) to 21's & really only notice quicker turning response. If there is any loss in ride quality it's not that noticeable.

Thanks for that info. I went from 18's to 22 on Gen1 FX and noticed the same with steering. Must have to do with sidewall bing huge on 18's. The ride quality seem maybe slight bit harsher on 22's not enough to tell night and day if you know what I mean.


Looks like TSW are not available in 22 in bolt pattern for FX35

I went from stock 18"s to 22"s on my 1st gen and didn't notice a ton of difference, obviously car got a little slower due to the heavier wheels. But then later on I swapped to 20"s and it was a night and day difference. The steering got much lighter and everything felt more responsive. I think wheel weight impacts things more than you'd think. I forget the weight of the stock 18"s with tires, but it's pretty heavy. Swapping to 22"s which were only slightly heavier didn't make much difference. Then when I went down to 20"s, I got smaller tires as well and it dropped the weight maybe 13-14 lbs per corner which was a huge difference.

What TSW wheels are you looking for? They have plenty of them in 22"s with our bolt pattern. I ran TSW's in 22".

TSW Nurburgring, I was told by 1010tires and Discount tires that they don't have them in our bolt pattern for 22 but they do for 21 and 20's.
Does that explain why I can't find any FX with them 22's ?

Was your setup on first gen ? I had an 04 FX35 that I went from stock 18's to 22's the steering response and feel improved drastically. My only compliant was it was just a little harsher
and as the tires wore (Yokohama Parada Spec-X) the car pulled with every crease or bump in the road. Also balancing became a nightmare. Steering would shake at various speeds. I think it due to the tires though. Will be very hard for me to recommend or use Yokohama Parada SpecX again

I just looked and you're right, they don't make that model in 22" for 114.3 pattern. Only 112 and 120 so pretty much VW/Audi, MB, and BMW.

And yes, my setup is on 1st gen. 2nd gen front suspension is different, but it won't change how larger wheels impact handling and ride.
