22" Gianelle Spider 5 Fitment

2010 FX35
I've got a black 2010 FX35 AWD fully stock with 20's, and am looking at picking up a set of Spidero 5's. For the 5x114.3 bolt pattern, I see the following options:

22 x 9 (38mm Offset)
22 x 10.5 (40mm Offset)

I'm looking at getting tires wider then stock, but don't need them to sit flush with the wheel well, I don't mind if they're tucked under slightly. I also want to get a slightly higher tire then stock to help fill in the wheel well. I realize most people will suggest I lower it, however I really don't want to do that.

I see in the following post they discuss 22x9 and the 285/40/22 tire.

First, will a 22x10.5 (40mm) fit ok on the 2nd gen FX? Could I run that wide a wheel with no issues to the AWD? Next, would this wheel work with the 285/40/22 tire? What other tires would be recommended for this size wheel? Again, I would like a tire that is slightly taller then stock height, to give me a slightly taller sidewall without having too drastic an impact on the speedo. Ideally I want my setup to be tucked under the wheel well and not sit flush.

Thanks for any advice or guidance anyone can provide!

Check out this site for the tire calculator:

Looks like the 10.5 will extend another 20 mm toward the fender.. based this on the 18" specs.. You shouldn't have issues with the awd with the same wheel and tire combo at all fours.. Many here have staggered fitments and have no problems as long as the overall diameter was maintained. Play around with that calculator, it's pretty helpful.

: I couldn't help with the offset's, but I can tell you that it's practically impossible to find a set of 22" Spidero's (I'v seen a couple chrome ones from time to time), best of luck to you though!

I can tell you that they are defiantly some of my favorite wheels. I wanted 22", but was only able to find 24".

hope you find what your looking for!

Thanks, yeah they definitely are a cool looking wheel, but it is very difficult to find them. I was able to get a hold of them via a certain distributor for $375/ea, but because they are discontinued they will be tough to replace if you damage one. Also, they said that Gianelle is notoriously difficult to work with, so if you do damage a wheel and want to buy a new one to replace it, they only want to sell complete sets and not individual wheels.

Apparently they were pulled due to several people having issues with the wheel bending and not holding up too well. It doesn't sound like everyone has had issues, but apparently that is why they were discontinued.

So it sounds like I may be back to square one unfortunately. It's difficult finding a good 22" that doesn't have a lip on it. I love the look of concave spoked wheels, but am having a hard time finding one in 22" that doesn't cost $600/wheel.

: I can tell you this about Gianelle (I'll choose my words carefully due to them being one of my sponsors), they are sometimes difficult to work with. It ultimately comes down to how busy they are, they really just need more people over there in my opinion. WIth that being said, I haven't had any problems with my wheels (knock on wood) since having them. I have heard of people having problems with them, but I have been fortunate.

I do make a huge effort during while driving to avoid pot holes, as well as drive VERY slow over speed bumps. I agree with you on the lipless look, there is something very sexy about it. For me it came down to wanting something that not everybody has. There are some very sexy one piece wheels with huge lips out there, but there's also a lot of people that have them. I get more compliments on my wheels then I do on anything else on my car. It's at least 2x a week, 3x if they are clean and shiny... lol

Let me know how things work out for you, and be sure to post pictures!

I got Spideros and only problem was that they need tuners lugs instead of oem.

Easy to get on Ebay.

Thanks again! I think I may have found the wheel, depending on their price that is. I have always liked the Vossen VVS-CV1 (black with machined face), but their price tag was too expensive. Late last week I heard that Lexani is coming out with their own version of the same wheel, called the CVX-55. Right now it appears people only have 20's in stock (for around $375), but they will be selling 22's before too long. I love the concave look, and with the inside of the wheel being black the machined face pops nicely.

What do you think of these?

Nice looking rims there.

On a different note - are you planning on keeping your stock 20"s? I've been looking for some OEM 20's (I have the OEM 18"s). If you're interested in selling your originals please PM me. Thanks - R.

I was planning on keeping my stock 20's and using them for winter wheels, so unfortunately I won't be able to help you out there. There are some decent sites that make OEM replica wheels however, not sure if they'd be offering the 20's from the 2nd gen FX quite yet, but is worth a shot.
