2018 QX70 Twin Turbo?

There was a rumour that the Q50 was going to get the same engine as Nissan GTR; I'm guessing this is also based on the same kinda rumour. Whatever the engine will be, I will miss the grunt of a 5 liter V8.

Also doesn't look like you can install the GTSPEC front brace in the engine compartment lol

From what I've read, this will first come out in the Q50 starting early next year I think, so maybe a few months later in the new QX70? 300 and 400 HP options. Would be sweet in the FX though.

Probably just detuned, which means it could be modded for much more. Made me think of the BMW 335i's.

Twin turbo with 300HP? Isn't that sort of low, considering the stock VQ is around 260sh???

HP isn't everything. 300hp and probably just as much if not more torque, and also tuning capabilities that will unleash much more HP/TQ

While the 300 horsepower version is fitted with a single water pump, the 400 horsepower engine uses two water pumps for more effective management of heat when under operating at higher loads. In addition, for the 400 horsepower variant an optical turbo speed sensor gives a 30 percent power boost to the turbo system by allowing the blades to spin faster.

These outputs have been achieved while ensuring an improvement in fuel efficiency of up to 6.7 percent. This represents a best-in-class power-to-efficiency ratio for the 400 horsepower unit.
....

Not for a 3.0L and the torque curve should be way better than a VQ. On my 335i even when I drop to Map0 (stock) for emissions, it's still a ton of fun at only 300 hp because there is instant torque at all times. Drives very differently than my brother's former G35 w/ revup even though hp numbers are similar. It's the torque that you feel. And looking at the specs, full torque comes on at 1600 rpm. VQ35 has maximum torque at 4800 rpm, it's a huge difference.

This new motor looks interesting and I wonder if the 400 hp version uses different turbos or if it's just the "optical speed sensor" which sounds like a fancy way of saying overboost function.

If it's the latter, I want to get the 300hp lol

and hopefully they add a better build tranny to go with the engine. Or even better double clutch lol.

If the turbos are the same, I don't see why you couldn't get close to the output of the 400hp motor. Maybe you wouldn't get as many pulls in before IATs climb too high since you're lacking the 2nd intercooler, but that's fixable as well. An optical speed sensor doesn't add power, it just allows the ECU to closely monitor the turbo which allows overboost. If you had aftermarket engine control then you could turn the boost up on your own for similar results if the turbos are the same. Wastegate is electronic so it's probably just tied to the optical speed sensor but even without it, someone will crack the code and turn the boost up.

Once aftermarket is developed, I think you could see way more than 400 hp on stock turbos unless they're tiny. And even if they are tiny, you'd be surprised at how far you can push 2.

My guess is that it's going to take a while to make it to the FX/QX70 platform. Similar to how it took forever for the 3.7 to make it to ours.

So in the mean time, I'd just built the VQ35HR block and going AMS TT :)

that would be a pretty penny, probably completely useless but cool non the less

I wish I had the skills and tools to build myself a custom turbo, something small, not too much psi.
