Yup. I ordered one.

I love my 2011 FX35. But, I had been toying around with either upgrading to an FX50 or buying a sports car. I figured for the $25,000 it would cost me to upgrade to a 2014 FX50, I could get a nice second car for fun. I really missed having a manual transmission to drive.

I looked at a couple 2010 or 2011 Camaro SS. Fun car. Old school, heavy, muscle car. Heavy clutch and trans. Very limited visibility. The interior was "meh". Overall, a fun car. I found a yellow 2010 for $27,500 with the 2SS package and 12,000 miles.

I drove a C6 Corvette. 2008. A little quicker than the Camaro, but not much. The interior was absolutely horrible. Rattles and creaks and cheap plastic. Plus I nearly slipped a disc in my back trying to get in and out of the thing (I've had two prior back surgeries so ingress/egress is important). I think it had 30,000 miles on it and it was $27,000. It was a Z51 package car in yellow with the glass roof panel.

I drove a 2011 Challenger. Not my thing. Never been a Mopar fan. Drove very big, handled big, and I just don't like the style or interior very much.

I drove a 2011 Mustang GT. Holy cow, what a difference. It was fast (420 hp), smooth, quiet, and comfortable. The interior is no FX, but it's decent. It drove like a sports car should (in my opinion) and felt like a much smaller car than the Camaro even though I had more head room than either GM car (I'm 6'1"). The car had 18,000 miles and was listed at $26,500. Loaded with leather and the Shaker audio package but no Brembo or Track package.

For shits and giggles, I priced out a new 2014 Mustang as I would want it: base GT trim, the track package (brembo brakes, BOSS 302 radiator, oil cooler, TORSEN LSD 3.73 rear end, GT500 lower control arms, and upgraded springs, bushings, and ESC tune to allow more wheelspin), and cloth Recaro seats. No other options. It stickered at $36,950 but there was $3,000 in rebates on the car plus some other decent incentives for the dealer to be aggressive on pricing as the 2015 models will be a new design (but a carryover of the 420hp Coyote motor and MT-82 trans, at least for the first year).

Long story short, no one had what I wanted, so I ordered it. Final price was $29,500 before tax/tags. It should be here in 6 to 8 weeks, just in time for spring! It's a shitload of car for 30K...I'm excited to have it exactly as I wanted it and with 0 (ok, well less than 10) miles on the odometer. Oh, I ordered the Sterling Gray Metallic over my second choices of Ruby Red Metallic and Deep Impact Blue. I had a tough decision with the color. But in the sun, the flake in the gray paint looked awesome.

I'm going to do:

19x9 SVE Drift wheels with the OE Pirelli tires; the stance looks awesome
Black "5.0" emblems on the fenders
Paint the hood vents (which are functional) semi-gloss black
20% tint all around
GT500 axle back exhaust for a little more rumble
A short shifter and bracket of some kind; MGW or Barton (the OE shifter assembly is the only complaint I've read consistently about the car)

Maybe I'll black out the Pony in the grille and the faux gas cap as well. Not sure yet.

I'm 39 years old, so I guess this is my mid-life crisis. It's also my first American car. CR and Edmunds recommend it as reliable, safe, and fun. I hope I agree.

The plan for now is to hold onto the FX as a DD. It's a great vehicle for hiking, biking, and winter. I'm not sure it will make sense having two vehicles that get 18 MPG on premium fuel, but I'm not ready to let her go yet.

Congrats!
love the recaro seats, and if i recall doesnt the track package use 5w-50 motor oil?

Thanks guys. I'm excited. A comparable Camaro SS 1LE, which is admittedly a better track car, would have a sticker of $39,000 with only $1000 cash back. Plus i liked the Mustang better.

Yes, the track pack cars use 8 quarts of synthetic 5W-50 because of the oil cooler.

Congratulations on the new purchase. Always been a huge fan of the Mustangs. Very nice choice of color and I heard many great things of the 5-oHs

She's here!!!

I picked her up Friday night. Everything went smooth at Fullerton Ford.

Yesterday, I had the SVE Drifts and the FRPP GT500 mufflers installed. I brought her home and cleaned her up a little and took a nice cruise. Nothing but smiles. I think the GT500 mufflers are perfect for me; just loud enough without pissing off the neighbors in my townhouse development on a cold start. I also installed the black 5.0 badges, brake light pulser, AEM air filter, oil separator, and LED interior lights.

I pulled the hood vents and I'll drop them off this week to get painted black.

Barring this potential snowstorm, she'll be at the shop Tuesday to get the XPEL bra on the bumper and lower hood and 20% tint all around. Then I'll pull the plastic seat covers off and really enjoy the Recaros.

I remember a dealership letting me test drive the 2013 boss edition. Man you can rip through those gears. Nice pick up
