The first luxury vehicle produced in the state of Tennessee, an Infiniti JX luxury crossover in Emerald Green, rolled off the production line during a special ceremony today at Nissan’s Smyrna Vehicle Assembly Plant. The all-new, 7-passenger 2013 Infiniti JX, the latest addition to the Infiniti Inspired Performance lineup, goes on sale at Infiniti retailers nationwide in March.

Attending the celebration alongside Smyrna technicians who will build the new JX were Nissan Americas Vice Chairman Bill Krueger, Vice President Manufacturing Smyrna – Decherd Susan Brennan, Infiniti Americas Vice President Ben Poore and U.S. Representative Scott DesJarlais of the 4th Congressional District of Tennessee.

“We are extremely proud and honored to be building this world-class vehicle right here in Middle Tennessee,” said Brennan. “We expect the inspired design and quality craftsmanship built into every new Infiniti model that rolls off the Smyrna production lines will deliver inspired performance that is second to none.”

Along with the assembly of the new Infiniti JX, the 265-horspower 3.5-liter DOHC V6 engines are assembled in nearby Decherd, Tennessee. The 2013 JX delivers best-in-class fuel economy ratings of 21 mpg and 20 mpg combined for the front-wheel drive and intuitive all-wheel drive models respectively.

The new Infiniti JX starts at a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $40,450 USD for the JX35 FWD and $41,550 USD for the JX35 AWD model. Reservations are being taken now at InfinitiUSA.com/all-new-JX.

“The luxury crossover market is the fastest growing luxury segment in America, representing a huge opportunity for Infiniti,” said Poore. “In fact, we expect JX to quickly become our second highest volume model, right behind the popular Infiniti G-line.”

The new JX also features the world’s first Backup Collision Intervention system – another first-to-market technology from Infiniti. Backup Collision Intervention uses sensors in the rear of the JX to detect potential obstacles when backing out of a parking space. If an obstacle is detected, the system gives visual and audible warnings. And, in case the driver doesn’t respond in time, BCI can step in and automatically apply the brakes to help avoid a potential impact.

In addition to the JX’s standout styling and craftsmanship, the breakthrough JX design offers excellent legroom in all three rows and ample cargo room behind the 3rd row. In addition, an innovative multi-mode middle seat design provides entry to the 3rd row without removing a 2nd row child seat.

Among the many other advanced standard and available technologies found throughout the new JX is Infiniti Connection™, a new feature that can automatically synch the owner’s schedule through Google Calendar™ and then provides navigation guidance to appointments – along with multiple other functions. The Infiniti Connection™ system also includes Infiniti Personal Assistant, which offers owners 24-hour personal concierge services from inside or outside of their Infiniti vehicle.

I wonder if there will be any quality issues now that it will be produced in TN versus Japan?

Aaron mentioned the QX prior to 2008 were made in US and had a ridiculous amount of issues.

Thoughts?

Well it's priced a bit lower then I expected. Thought they'd start our at ~$45 for base model

Reveal at the Chicago Infiniti is tomorrow..but the hours don't work for me..Anyone in Chicago want the invite?

I'm all for stuff being built in the U.S, but the fact Infiniti had quality issues on the previous gen 04-07 QX that was built in the U.S kind of turns me off. Although the previous gen QX was built at the Canton, Mississippi plant and this new JX is built in Tennessee. I remember reading an article from Infiniti about 2 years back explaining that they prefer to keep all future Infiniti models built in Japan instead of America to keep quality levels up. But then they go and do this? Makes no sense. Seems like a way to cut costs which isn't cool.

I also see the JX isn't getting the VQ35HR like the FX, and is using the VQ35DE instead from the Maxima and Murano.

And those CVT transmissions are garbage. Nissan has had sooooo many problems with those that they actually extended the warranty on them to 10 years/120,000 miles. My friend had a Rogue with 1,200 miles on it and his CVT tranny was having this extremely horrible rattle sound and they had to replace it under warranty with just 1,200 miles on the ODO. Do a search and you'll see so many complaints.

I'm an Infiniti guy and like the new JX, just wished they hadn't taken some of the corners they cut to making it. I guess we will have to sit back and see how well they do out in the market.....

You don't think they have the CVT issues resolved? Kim is really considering the Pathfinder in fall of 2012 and I think that will have a CVT.

I see on their global website they have improved the CVT's, but it says there could be a small percentage out there that may fail or something in the future. That's why all new Nissan's come with the new extended warranty applied to the CVT tranny.

I would think they wouldn't start releasing a JX that is supposed to be their #2 seller and other best sellers like Rogues and Pathfinders if they didn't want to lose a ton of money on a trans that is going to have issues, otherwise they would have dropped the CVT all together and not risk the financial pain of it.

I wonder if the JX gets the DE versus the HR engine since it's already been paired with the CVT in some Nissans. I'd love to know the thought/design that went into that decision. Or maybe the DE has been used in other FWD platforms, so that's why it gets the nod?

You would think the CVT would be reliable by now (it first was used in the 2003 Murano), but the numbers seem to prove otherwise. More than that, I just don't like the drive characteristics of it. It feels very unnatural to me.

Definately the DE motor cause they said that engine for the new JX will come from their engine assembly plant in Tennessee which only produces the DE motors and the small 4 cylinder motors in the altimas.

HR motors are only built in Japan.

The sole model, the JX35, is powered by Nissan’s ubiquitous VQ35DE V-6, here making 265 hp and 248 lb-ft of torque and mated to a CVT. The unibody underpinnings are derived from the same D platform used for the Nissan Murano, and front-wheel drive is standard. All-wheel drive is optional. (More derivatives may be on the way; Infiniti has trademarked other alphanumerics for the crossover, including JX25h.) Fuel economy is estimated to be 17 mpg city and 23 highway with either driveline.

A knob on the center console offers the driver a choice of Sport, Standard, Eco, and Snow modes, which variously adjust throttle sensitivity and transmission behavior. The CVT will mimic a traditional automatic when in Sport mode—CVT Sport mode: a contradiction if ever there was one—although no details were given on how many “ratios” it will step through.

oh my...it looks like a glorified soccer mom van with an infiniti badge. i hope this boosts up sales for infiniti like crazy so they can bring some more sport cars into the line up or a performance line...

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks.

Motor Trend had an editorial from someone at large that said the front end of the JX looks like the Pig from Angry Birds. He wasn't wrong.
