I don't think the 2nd gens nav are dvd based upgrades. I think they are hard drive updates.

Yeah it sucks, that's why I haven't updated mine yet. Especially when I have two Garmin's with lifetime map updates and Google maps on my Andriod lol.

there's a 4 disc set for my 2011 FX35 and it's $ 179.00
2nd gen after 2009 are DVD based. I recently got the 2014 DVD update pack for 120 online from Infiniti . Just wait for a deal to come out.

Btw don't buy a used copy for a second gen, they seem to be coded to work only with one specific car.
Even if you buy the DVDs, you would still need the dealership to perform the install is that correct? Which means another hours labour pay.
Nope I did it in my driveway , took a little over an hour. Simply put DVDs in and it tells you what to do. The Infiniti website tells you whether you need a dealer or not. Research confirms 2010-new is self loaded dvd nav updates

When you bought yours, did they ask you for your serial number or anything? The reason I ask is because I found a thread out in the UK for GTRs where they use the same discs (Except theirs is EU version) and they were able to use the same set of disc for more than one vehicle. Have you tested this theory?
Where do you load the dvd? My 1st gen's had it under the passenger seat.
The DVD's are inserted in the DVD/CD slot on the dash where you put music CDs in. Since 2009 had the memory card slot,did you have the option to watch DVD's on your GPS screen?
Memory card slot? Are you talking about the compact flash memory slot? I can watch DVD's on my gps screen but I have to use the RCA ports inside the arm rest. I don't have a factory rear entertainment system installed so my FX didn't come with a DVD player installed. I'm in the process of looking into a media player now to hook up to the RCA ports. I'd rather have a media player or media hub as opposed to a DVD player installed. I posted a thread with a video from YouTube where someone used a media hub to wirelessly stream video, music & skype chat screen from their phone to their JX 35 gps screen.

My bad, you're right, compact flash memory slot. On the 2010's and up they replaced the CD player with a DVD player that can do music ,mp3 and DVD movies. Instead of the memory card, they put in a hard drive.
On mine for example, its a 2012, I can insert DVD movies into the radio and it will play movies on the GPS screen. I can also pay DivX movies. I don't have those RCA ports and I don't have the entertainment system either...and reading another post somewhere on here, someone went a great distance to add RCA jacks into theirs which didn't come with it and it was way too much work to do it. There's no option when choosing a source either so you would need someone with a consult 3 to enable the RCA option through the menus.
I'm looking to do the media hub as well. Samsung has one, I just have to implement my NAVTOOL so I can get video on the screen. I already have audio going through bluetooth streaming.

Sorry im late. Yes it asked for the code that my radio displays, I'm sure its specific to the car. I have not tested using same cd's with another car.
