KERS in a street car? That's cool.

Things really are looking bad for Tesla recently. I know recently a few of their higher up employees were killed in a plane crash in Palo Alto.

Poor Tesla... crushed before they could even start, no thanks to their VERY EARLY transmission problems.

Audi's got the right idea, in-wheel electric motors provide an easy way to have an electric AWD and at the same time they realized a conventional transmission mated to an electric motor is just plain silly (gobs of INSTANT torque).

When I retire I will buy something resembling that e-tron.

Do you take the Cygnet with a glass of water or is milk ok?

The Hispano Suiza needs to lose the hideous side vents!

Porsche 918 Spyder: Wheels have chain guards like a down-hill Mt. bike!

I've met Elon Musk (when applying to SpaceX) and have heard him talk about the Tesla. He's currently redesigning the whole concept for a production model that will sell for around 40K. I really think price is the only reason these cars haven't done better yet - but prices are dropping as more and more competition shows up. Tesla was one of the first generation all electric cars and never had a real shot at big production numbers. Love the car - but it was an early development and the 2/3 gen electric cars will be head and shoulders above what's available now. Looking forward to it, but won't buy until after they have become mainstream.

This is true, forgot about that. The new vehicle is a sedan, and I think it kind of looks like a Maserati. http://www.teslamotors.com/models/

Yeah their sedan version is 40-50k, but I don't remember hearing about them dropping the Roadster's price down from the 100k mark. That Roadster was doomed from the get-go with the transmission idea. Electric motors should not have a transmission. Their "power band" can make full use of a max RPM. In a nutshell, they should gear the electric motor to start at 0 RPM and hit a max speed of 110-190 (depending on performance level, an electric economy sedan should max out around 110) at its max RPM with no gear changes inbetween

But I've been looking into retrofitting a Mazda Miata with 4 electric motors for the past year or two. I'll wait for the R&D of Audi or someone else to become more mainstream so I can just copy their design and probably swap their parts in

Even though the brand are managed by the same father..

I will take the Porsche over the Audi...

The Porsche looks so hot.. and I love the Green Calipers of the BBK
